Mechanical Design Consultant - Gas Turbines

On behalf of our globally respected client who develop cutting-edge technologies that deliver clean, safe and competitive solutions to meet the planet's vital power needs we are looking for a Mechanical Design Consultant - Gas Turbines for a 12 month contract based in Derby.

Job description - The Role:

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Consultant to lead the development of a strategic whitepaper and drive high-level planning for process and technology improvements within the repair design function for civil gas turbine engines. This role involves facilitating strategic brainstorming sessions, aligning stakeholders across engineering and operations, and creating a clear, actionable programme roadmap to enhance efficiency, innovation, and long-term capability in repair design processes. The ideal candidate will have strong technical leadership skills, experience in complex aerospace environments, and a proven track record in driving process transformation.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the development of a strategy whitepaper for repair design processes in civil gas turbine engines.
• Facilitate and lead strategic brainstorming sessions, road mapping, and programme planning workshops.
• Drive the end-to-end strategy process from concept through to industrialisation for component repair.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate IT software solutions, including AI and interface technologies, into repair design workflows.
• Produce high-quality technical reports and documentation to support strategic initiatives.
• Engage with stakeholders across large engineering organisations (e.g., BAE, JLR) to align on programme goals and timelines.
• Ensure compliance with BPSS and NDA requirements as needed.

Essential Criteria:

• Proven experience in technical programme design, ideally in aerospace or complex engineering environments.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver technical strategies and whitepapers under tight timelines.
• Strong facilitation skills for brainstorming, roadmapping, and time-framing sessions.
• Experience with mechanical design and component repair design in a technical context
