Job Description

ABC Teachers is seeking experienced Teaching Assistants to support children and young people with autism and trauma-related needs to work in a Secondary school setting in Coventry on a full-time basis starting in September.

This is a rewarding opportunity to work in a nurturing, specialist setting where you will play a vital role in helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and re-engage with education.

About the role:

  • Provide tailored classroom support to pupils with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and those with trauma-related emotional and behavioural needs
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to deliver personalised learning and intervention programmes
  • Promote emotional regulation, positive behaviour, and social development through consistent, trauma-informed strategies, building trusting relationships with pupils to foster confidence, self-esteem, and engagement.
  • Assist with the preparation of learning materials and classroom organisation
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to the wider team
  • Support pupils during unstructured times, such as lunch and break, ensuring a safe and positive environment.

About you:

To be considered for the Teaching Assistant position, you will:

  • Have previous experience working with children and young people with Autism, and trauma related needs.
  • Suitable qualifications such as Youth Work, Health and Social Care or Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools are desired but not essential.
  • Have strong communications skills with the ability to quickly build rapport with students
  • Calm, empathetic, and adaptable approach
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • Able to obtain suitable references and a DBS check.
