About the Role & Team
In this role, you will support our newly established Walt Disney Imagineering office in London. Our London-based Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) team supports our extensive cruise ship portfolio expansion and works closely with our Disney Cruise Line (DCL) team. This role suits someone with a background in quantity surveying.
As our Senior Project Controls Estimator, you will be responsible for estimating project capital budgets during ship development phases and managing cost control, change management, and risk assessment during project execution. You will be part of an international team of estimators and collaborate closely with project managers, creative designers, and technical experts.
This role requires onsite presence 4 days a week and involves regular travel to the Germany-based shipyard. Please note, this is a fixed-term contract until the end of 2030.
What You Will Do
- Conduct take-offs and estimations for sophisticated, highly integrated projects including hotels, theme park attractions, cruise ships, and other Disney expansions. Focus will be on the Disney cruise ship portfolio expansion.
- Prepare estimates using incomplete or ambiguous information with minimal supervision.
- Participate in detailed estimating, negotiate, and settle contractual change orders timely.
- Review and estimate proposals, specifications, drawings, and supporting documents to determine scope of work and estimate contents.
- Communicate with operators, designers, and contractors to provide estimating, cost data, analysis, and scenario planning.
- Provide design staff and project teams with detailed cost guidance, value engineering, and alternatives; compare estimates with historical data where possible.
- Manage costs throughout the project lifecycle, quantify risks, develop mitigation plans, and forecast the total project Estimated Final Cost (EFC).
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Extensive estimating and/or cost control experience, preferably with complex, large-scale projects.
- Experience from preconstruction to implementation estimating.
- Ability to produce conceptual estimates independently.
- Understanding of construction documents (drawings, specifications, schedules, contracts).
- Proficiency with AutoDesk software, including reading technical drawings in 3D modeling.
- Experience with quantity takeoff software.
- Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel; knowledge of PowerBI or similar tools is a plus.
- Ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines in a multicultural environment.
- Strong decision-making, relationship-building, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage complex financial and estimating data effectively.
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage time efficiently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of the hospitality, themed entertainment, cruise line, or resort industries.
- Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related field preferred.
