This role is advertised as part of ourBBC Extend programme for disabled people. JOB BAND: D

CONTRACT TYPE: 12 Month Fixed Term contract (attachment for BBC Staff)

DEPARTMENT: Platforms Team

LOCATION: London, Newcastle, Salford, Glasgow or Cardiff - Hybrid

PROPOSED SALARY RANGE:£80,000 - £90,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

To lead the vision, strategy, and delivery of the BBC's Account Platform, ensuring secure, scalable, and resilient identity and access management (IAM) systems that support seamless signed-in experiences across BBC digital services.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

  • Define and lead the product vision and roadmap for the BBC's Account Platform, aligning with strategic business goals.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure platform scalability, high availability, and fault tolerance.
  • Drive data-informed product development, from discovery through delivery and iteration.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into actionable requirements for cross-functional teams.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to deliver secure, compliant, and seamless user account experiences.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Proven experience as a Product Manager, ideally in technical or platform-focused roles.
  • Strong background in building and scaling backend systems or technical infrastructure.
  • Deep understanding of IAM systems, APIs, cloud platforms (especially AWS), and distributed architectures.
  • Experience managing platform health, scalability, and cost-effectiveness through technical epics.
  • Exposure to working with editorial, legal, compliance, or licensing teams in a digital context.

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED

  • Familiarity with secure-by-design principles, data protection, and compliance frameworks.
  • Knowledge of authentication trends, privacy-enhancing technologies, and digital participation.
  • Background in coordinating cross-functional teams to identify shared capabilities and simplification Strategies.
  • Proficiency with tools like Jira, Confluence, and modern collaboration frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience with Identity and Access Management (IAM) systems and/or account platforms at scale.
INTERVIEW PROCESS

The interview process will be two stages and held on MS Teams. The first stage will include a short presentation / scenario followed by the second interview where you'll demonstrate the required competencies through examples from your experience. Interviews will be held on the 7th, 10th and 11th August 2025.
