Job Title: Workshop Engineer
Location: East Grinstead
Salary: £32,860 - £37,785 Per Annum
Hours: Monday - Friday (8am-5pm)
Holidays: 23 days bank holidays (rising with service)

Workshop Engineer Overview:

Join one of the UK s leading generator hire companies as a Workshop Engineer. This hands-on role is ideal for someone with a background in diesel engines or plant maintenance, looking to work within a supportive, employee-owned business that values development and teamwork.

As a Workshop Engineer, you ll carry out the servicing, repair, and upkeep of diesel generators, both in the depot and occasionally on-site, helping ensure our fleet is always operating at its best.

Workshop Engineer Responsibilities:

Generator Maintenance & Repairs:

  • Perform servicing and preventative maintenance on diesel-powered generators
  • Carry out mechanical repairs on rental equipment and customer units
  • Follow manufacturer service schedules and maintain equipment logs

Yard Operations:

  • Assist with loading/offloading, general yard duties, and forklift operation
  • Support basic maintenance tasks and maintain a tidy, safe working environment

Deliveries & Site Support:

  • Deliver and collect generators and ancillaries using company vehicles
  • Refuel equipment and perform on-site repairs and servicing as required
  • Take part in on-call rota (enhanced rates apply) to support 24/7 operations

Compliance & Safety:

  • Adhere to ISO standards (9001, 14001, 45001, 50001) and company H&S policies
  • Support continuous improvement in equipment performance and depot standards
Workshop Engineer Specification:

Essential:

  • Qualification in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Diesel Fitting or Plant Maintenance (e.g., City & Guilds, BTEC)
  • Experience servicing large diesel engines (e.g., Perkins, Cummins)
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable:

  • Forklift licence and experience with generator control systems
  • Strong communication skills and a proactive, team-first attitude
