Salary: £74,700 - £87,883 per annum
Hours: Full time
Contract: Permanent
Location: London / Hybrid

This is an exciting opportunity to take on a wide ranging legal advisory post where you will use your legal expertise to make a real impact - maintaining public confidence in dental services and protecting the safety of patients.

As a Principal Advisory Lawyer, you will play a leading role at the General Dental Council, providing strategic and risk-based legal advice across a wide range of complex and high profile regulatory, wider public and commercial law matters.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading a team of lawyers ensuring the provision of accurate, timely, cost-effective and risk-based advice.
  • Working proactively with senior stakeholders across the organisation to identify legal risk and design and implement mitigations.
  • Contributing to decision-making and overseeing strategic and high-risk litigation.
  • Critiquing draft legislation and working with external advisors on specialist matters.
  • Contributing to the delivery of the GDC s corporate strategy and costed corporate plan.
  • Identifying legal issues and working proactively with colleagues to highlight and mitigate these where possible.

Person Specification:

  • To be considered for this role you will need to be a qualified and practising solicitor, or barrister, or ILEX qualified, with significant post qualification experience in one or more of the following areas of law: public law; information law; commercial law; criminal law; regulatory/ professional discipline; and employment law.
  • You will also need excellent legal analytical skills, with the ability to analyse complex legal issues and present legally sound, risk-based and pragmatic advice and instructions.
