This is a hybrid role that will require you to visit our Motorola sites at Rugby and Coventry as required, therefore the candidate should live within commuting distance to those locations.

Motorola Solutions has contracts with a large number of emergency services agencies in the UK, such as police, fire and ambulance services. These contracts include solutions such as Emergency Call Handling systems, Radio Dispatch systems, Computer Aided Dispatch incident management systems, and Mobile Data Capture systems.

The majority of these solutions are offered as a managed service, where Motorola Solutions host and maintain the applications within Motorola Solutions' own secure data centres.

Each software application is developed and maintained by the respective product and engineering teams and the coordination for deployment of these applications in line with Customer requirements is coordinated by the respective deployment teams. Similarly, the application hosting of these software solutions is owned by the respective Application Hosting teams. All of these functions are outside of the scope of this role.

The scope of this role includes ownership and management of:

the base physical hardware (servers, switches, firewalls, storage, etc.) within our data centres

the networking, routing, firewalling and general traffic management within our hosted platform

the ingress/egress routes into our hosted platform (such as third party private circuits; internet connections; VPNs; etc.)

the security and accreditation of the hosted platform, including ensuring that we maintain our annual IT Health Check (ITHC) and national accreditations

the uptime and performance of the base platform (inc. hardware and network performance) in line with our customer expectations for mission critical systems

technical documentation sets associated with the hosted platform

management of the team 24/7 on-call rota

The Head of UK Hosted Software Platform will:

manage a team of infrastructure and network engineers, responsible for maintaining our base hardware platform and network infrastructure

actively liaise and work with the respective owners of the hosted application teams (for Mobile Data; Emergency Call Handling; etc.)

actively liaise and work with the Motorola Solutions UK service desk and resolver teams

actively liaise and work with key stakeholders from Motorola Solutions such as Product Managers, Deployment Managers, Product Directors, etc.

The Head of UK Hosted Software Platform will report directly to Director-level within Motorola Solutions.


Basic Requirements

The post holder will demonstrate the following competencies:

A high level of communication skills - written and verbal

A high level of technical competency

The ability to organise, delegate and mentor

A high level of diplomacy and interpersonal skills to work with peers within the organisation and to support customer engagements

A level-headed character who can remain calm and maintain composure during major incidents and/or outages

Mandatory:

10+ years industry experience

A strong track record of architecting, delivering and operating large hosted platforms and data centres

A strong understanding of networking and routing technologies, including resilient, fault-tolerant design patterns for high availability / zero downtime

A strong understanding of virtualisation technologies (such as VMWare) and containerisation technologies (such as Kubernetes/Docker)

Experience of leading teams of infrastructure and/or network engineers

Experience operating within ITIL processes including service design, service operation and change management

Experience of owning security, penetration testing, IT Health checks and security certifications

A formal qualification (Degree) in Computing Science, Network Engineering or equivalent experience.

Professional certifications such as networking, ITIL, cybersecurity, Microsoft etc.

Experience managing and operating high availability (99.95%+) mission critical solutions

Experience with HPE server and storage hardware

Experience with VMWare virtualisation technologies

Experience with Checkpoint, Fortinet or NSX-T

Experience with Microsoft Server, Microsoft SQL Server, etc.
