Mechanical Fitter (3-Month Contract Potential to Go Permanent)
Location: Bedford

Our client is a well-established UK-based engineering firm specialising in bespoke, high-performance pumping solutions for the water industry. Operating from a modern facility that includes a cutting-edge design studio and specialist test bay, the company also manages complete project lifecycles from design and manufacture to installation and long-term support.

With a strong presence in the UK water sector and clients ranging from utilities and contractors to government agencies, they also export globally. All manufacturing is UK-based, with a dedicated team of approximately 60 staff on-site.

The Role

We're seeking a Mechanical Fitter to join the team on an initial 3-month contract, with the potential to transition into a permanent position. This is a workshop-based role ideal for someone with hands-on mechanical experience and a strong work ethic.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mechanical assembly of engineered components (pre-final assembly)
  • Bolting and aligning iron components
  • Grinding using hand tools
  • Conducting hydrostatic pressure testing

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Mechanical assembly or fitting background
  • Good understanding of hand tools and workshop practices
  • Positive, can-do attitude and willingness to learn
  • Pump experience is not essential training will be provided

Package:

  • Hours: Monday Thursday, 08 45; Friday, 08 45 (37.5 hours/week)
  • Pay: £15.38 per hour / Equivalent to £30,000 annually
  • Holidays: 25 days + bank holidays
