Job Description

Junior Network Engineers play a vital role by assisting in implementing, maintaining, and supporting our client's network infrastructure. They are part of a Network Engineering team responsible for supporting and developing scalable, maintainable, highly available network architectures (such as 24x7x365) that meet business objectives and SLAs or break-fix agreements. Engineers must be willing to work unsociable hours, weekends as required, and participate in an on-call rota.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the network break-fix team in configuration and maintenance of network equipment
  • Carry out data cable installation and maintenance requirements
  • Install containment systems
  • Read and interpret CAD drawings, technical designs, and work to programme schedules
  • Possess a full driving licence (desirable)
Requirements
  • Understand the fundamentals of Networking and the OSI model
  • Understand issues involved in administering and maintaining corporate WAN/LAN
  • Assist with basic troubleshooting, backup, and archiving
  • Help maximize network performance through ongoing monitoring and troubleshooting
  • Report network status, risks, issues, constraints, and dependencies to line managers and stakeholders
  • Escort third parties during access and reporting responsibilities
  • Assist in network maintenance and system upgrades, including service packs, patches, and security configurations
  • Work within timescales specified in SLAs, often under pressure due to limited maintenance windows
  • Liaise with vendors and IT personnel for problem resolution
  • Maintain up-to-date network documentation (Stock Register)
  • Assist in producing work documents and conducting site surveys with detailed reporting
  • Communicate key action points and reports to program managers
  • Stay informed on relevant H&S legislation and apply it in daily work, including customer requirements
  • Work neatly and ensure sites are left clean from waste after shifts
  • Drive company van, including collection and delivery of materials between HO and sites
  • Follow ECS/Sentinel scheme rules as an individual card holder/Lead Engineer/SPC
  • Take reasonable care of oneself and others affected by acts or omissions at work
  • Care for tools, PPE, and other company equipment
  • Cooperate with the employer to ensure legal compliance
  • Attend Engineers' Meetings as required
