Senior Ecologist

A company is seeking an enthusiastic Senior Ecologist to join their team near Bedford. As a multi-disciplinary consultancy, the Senior Ecologist will have the opportunity to work with landscape, masterplanning, and archaeology/heritage colleagues, developing and utilizing a broader understanding of planning and development to deliver great outcomes for people and nature.

As a Senior Ecologist, you will have the opportunity to work on a diverse and interesting range of projects, collaborating with friendly and dedicated teams. You will also have the option to work from home up to 2 days a week, allowing for a healthy work-life balance.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating and delivering high-quality work

  • Developing junior members of the team

  • Playing an important client-facing role

  • Leading protected species surveys

  • Preparing and/or overseeing PEAs, EcIAs, HRAs, BNG assessments, and mitigation strategies

  • Being involved from the strategic planning phase of projects through to implementation

Qualifications

  • Relevant ecology/biology degree

  • Protected species survey experience, including personal species survey licenses

  • Habitat survey experience (including UKHab) and sound botanical skills

  • Strong working knowledge of relevant wildlife legislation

  • Excellent written English and verbal communication skills

  • Skilled with MS Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and QGIS

  • Hard-working, highly organized, and a strong team player

  • Willingness to undertake night-time surveys and occasional overnight stays

  • Full, clean UK driving license, with own car

  • Membership of CIEEM is advantageous
