We have a great opportunity for Pharmaceutical Operator Specialist's working in the Pilot Plant here in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. Our pilot plant has the capability to produce a range of different products (both developmental and commercial) at large scale, making this role an exciting opportunity for you to develop your skills and knowledge. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to use a variety of equipment, running multiple chemical syntheses on plant, many of which haven't been done at scale before. Role: Pharmaceutical Operator Specialist I Job Type: Permanent Location: Milton Park, Abingdon, Oxfordshire, UK Salary: £26,666 plus shift allowance of £8,196. Plus annual bonus and annual merit review Hours: 12-hour shifts (days and nights) including paid breaks (90 minutes). Shift Pattern: 42 hours per week on average, 28-day shift pattern cycle: Week 1: 2 x Day shifts, 2 x Night shifts, 3 days off Week 2: 2 x Days off, 2 x Day shifts, 3 x Night shifts Week 2: 4 x Days off, 3 x Day shifts Week 4: 2 x Night shifts, 5 x Days off (then repeats) Role & Responsibilities: Operate the pilot plant reactors and ancillary equipment following all current procedures (IOPs, BPGs, etc.) to maintain high standards of safety, housekeeping, hygiene and quality. Ensure written instruction/directions are followed correctly. Notify your supervisor or Manager immediately of any irregularities so that corrective actions can be planned and implemented. Promptly and accurately complete documents as directed and record all irregularities. Support environmental monitoring and report/record information. Carry out routine maintenance and re-configuration of reaction vessels and ancillary equipment to ensure production is carried out in a timely and safe manner, complying with Health and Safety obligations. Participate fully and diligently in all training schemes. Participate fully and diligently in project schemes to support continuous improvement in working practices. Skills & Qualifications: Qualification in Chemistry, or other related discipline, advantageous. Awareness of cGMP, regulatory aspects and pharmaceutical regulations desirable. Good planning and organisational skills. Able to communicate effectively at all levels within the organisation. Able to interact effectively and positively with internal customers. Able to work on your own and as part of a team. Good time management and prioritisation capabilities. Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Flexible and adaptable with an open-minded view and creative problem-solving skills. Strong sense of accountability for the outcome. Contribute to shift handovers. Liaise between production management, chemists and other departments. IT literate with strong Microsoft Office skills. Essential Requirements & Working Environment To ensure safety, compliance, and effectiveness in this GMP-regulated role, applicants should be aware of the following key job demands Manual Handling:The role involves regular movement of heavy materials, including manoeuvring pallets of 200L drums. The safe use of handling aids (e.g., pallet trucks, drum trollies, hoists etc.). Cluttered & Confined Spaces:Work is carried out in an operational plant setting where space may be restricted and cluttered at times, requiring constant awareness of surroundings and safe navigation. GMP Documentation:A strong level of written literacy and attention to detail is essential to follow instructions, complete batch records, and reduce the risk of documentation errors with a right first time approach. Accurate, clear, and timely documentation is critical to ensuring regulatory compliance and product quality. Shift Work:Candidates must be able to sustain a rotating 12-hour shift pattern, including nights, as outlined above. In this role you will play a key role in the operation of the plant, including material handling, electrical generation, maintenance and quality control and report directly to the CHP Manager. The purpose of this job is to ensure the CHP plant stays running within set-point automatic controlled values in a safe manner in order to maximise the efficient delivery of heat and power from the plant. The CHP Operator must look after the chip drying operation involving the belt dryer, walking floors and silos to ensure the requirements a met. For this role we are looking for someone with the following: Qualification in Biomass, Energy, Engineering or related field or equivalent knowledge and experience Experience with mechanical equipment such of filters, heat exchangers, pipelines, valves, vessels etc Knowledge in rotating equipment such of pumps, fans, compressors, motors etc Very strong organisation skills and attention to detail Strong communication skills with the ability to build trusted relationships You will have many responsibilities, some will include: Routine Operations and Maintenance activities in order to keep CHP Plant on highest availability Working at heights including such duties as clearing blocked sensors, greasing bearings and conveyors etc Driving heavy machinery such as Volvo bucket loaders, telehandler, forklifts etc Load fuel into walking floors using Volvo bucket loader. Belt dryer walking floor must be filled with wet wood chip and kept full CHP walking floor must be filled with Bark, Butt Chips and Dried chip according to a ratio set by CHP Manager to achieve a uniform moisture content and mix Daily completing data of the operator's report as following but not limited to daily and weekly analysis reports including residue density, moisture content oven samples, fuel calorific samples, meter readings of electric and thermal meters, raw material volumes, processing volumes, water sampling etc Checking and making sure the plant is capable of full operation. Organising duties such as emptying ash container in a timely manner, ensuring silo truck loading is operational and other related Respond to alarms raised on the computer system and react accordingly to get the plant back to correct operational set points Following maintenance schedule to ensure 24/7 operation Working hours 12 hours shifts rota will be required as it follows 4-day shifts (06:45-19:00), 4-night shifts (18:45-07:00) and 4 days off.
