Climate Change Delivery Manager Trinity College is seeking to appoint an outstanding individual who brings broad and deep experience in climate change management to transform our heritage estate. Trinity College, founded in 1546 by Henry VIII, is the largest College in the University of Cambridge, with some 730 undergraduates, 350 graduate students, over 190 Fellows and around 330 non-academic staff. The beauty and size of Trinity's historic buildings and courts attract visitors from all over the world, but the College is also a thriving, modern community, which exists to give its members a rewarding, richly resourced, and intellectually inspiring place in which to pursue their education and research. This new post will be part of the Junior Bursar's team, which is responsible for the operational management of the College. This includes managing the high profile and heritage working and residential environment for all students, Fellows and staff across a thousand rooms and three city centre sites. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with leading academics and professionals to transform this estate and help the College live within its planetary boundaries. A key focus of that work will be supporting the Junior Bursar in the delivery of stretching targets with regard to sustainability, including achieving 90% degasification of the site by 2030. The role is one of complex change management and will require keeping up to date with existing technologies, advising and persuading on best options, acting as intelligent customer to procure and manage contractors, programme managing the delivery and acting as change champion, bringing the whole college community along with you. The postholder will also work alongside the Senior Bursar's Office, particularly the Investment and Sustainability Officer, whose work has recently shared a 2022 Green Gown Award for effective engagement with the banking sector on climate finance and are delivering strong sustainability targets across the external estate. To achieve these aims we expect you to have proven engineering experience and a deep interest in sustainability, with proven and extensive experience of managing and delivering programmes from initiation to conclusion. You will have excellent analytical skills, be a keen problem solver with advanced communication, persuasion and team working skills to build excellent relationships within the College and with external organisations. A degree (or equivalent) is necessary together with relevant engineering and project management qualifications. Experience within a heritage environment would also be advantageous. Purpose of role: To lead, direct and deliver the long-term sustainability and climate change agenda for Trinity College's operational estates. To deliver the targets with regard to climate change, including the initial challenge of achieving a 90% degasification of the operational estate by 2030. Key responsibilities: • Using up to date knowledge of emerging technologies, undertake detailed analysis of options, provide professional advice and present both policy and operational initiatives to meet the challenge of degasifying the operational (internal) estate. • To lead and manage the projects and programmes required to deliver the degasification target, including the installation of new heating systems, double glazing, thermal insulation and other works as required. To include production of tendering documents, planning permissions, key performance targets, risks and issues, problem solving and business continuity, such as the provision of alternative services while work is ongoing, making sure that lessons learned are fed into subsequent stages, Ensure that the projects have the appropriate authorisations to proceed, College Committees are managed appropriately and that all projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the high quality standard required. • To review the resources required to deliver degasification quickly, pursuing business cases, developing requests for additional staff, consultancy or contractor input as required and securing support for the resources across the College Community. Managing and reporting on budgets (estimated to be between £30 and £50 million) • To act as intelligent customer in the procurement and management of contractors delivering the sustainability work, ensuring that the College receives good advice, value for money and good quality outcomes. • To act as change champion for sustainability, initially focussing on the degasification of the estate.
