Job Description

Job Specification: IT Support Technician

Location: Newton Aycliffe
Department: IT Support

Purpose of the Role

To provide responsive, effective desktop and systems support across Octric Semiconductors Ltd. This includes routine IT tasks, diagnostics, hardware/software support, and resolving technical issues under the direction of senior IT staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide end-user support for hardware, software, systems, and access issues.
  • Respond to technical support requests via telephone, email, and face-to-face.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues using Service Desk tools.
  • Install and configure hardware/software (e.g., PCs, printers, business software).
  • Conduct user account tasks (e.g., creation/deletion in Active Directory).
  • Monitor and maintain computer systems and networks.
  • Document all activities and participate in regular IT team meetings.

Main Tasks

  • Log and track IT issues through the IT Helpdesk.
  • Liaise directly with users to determine and resolve issues or discuss solutions.
  • Work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Adapt to shifting priorities and demonstrate flexibility under pressure.

Person Specification

Essential Experience

  • Proven experience in an IT support role.
  • Team-based working experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.

Technical Skills

Essential:

  • Microsoft Windows OS (all versions)
  • Office 365
  • Active Directory
  • Microsoft SCCM
  • TCP/IP networking

Desirable:

  • VMware
  • VEEAM
  • Cisco technologies
  • Microsoft Exchange

Personal Qualities

  • Flexible and proactive attitude

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a similar IT support environment
