Mech Electrics Limited Oldham, Lancashire
MEP CAD TECHNICIAN Heywood, Greater Manchester Permanent Office Based CAD TECHNICIAN - MEP / BUILDING SERVICES Mech Electrics are recruiting for a long-standing engineering client we've proudly worked with for over 15 years, helping them recruit technical and engineering professionals as the business has continued to grow. We're looking for a CAD Technician with experience within Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services design who wants the opportunity to develop their career into detailed BIM and LOD 400 modelling. You do NOT need previous LOD 400 experience. What we're looking for is someone with good CAD fundamentals, an understanding of MEP services and, most importantly, the appetite to learn. THE OPPORTUNITY You'll be based within our client's purpose-built off-site manufacturing facility in Heywood, working from the offices located directly on the manufacturing campus. This creates a very different environment from a conventional CAD office. You'll be working alongside Design, Engineering and Manufacturing teams, with direct access to the shop floor where the modules and assemblies you help develop are actually manufactured. You'll be able to see how drawings and models translate into fabrication, understand why greater levels of design detail matter and progressively develop your skills towards LOD 400. For someone looking to move beyond conventional 2D CAD and develop genuine fabrication-level BIM experience, this represents an excellent career opportunity. THE ROLE Initially you'll support the production and coordination of detailed MEP drawings and models, working closely with experienced members of the Design and Manufacturing teams. As your knowledge develops, you'll become increasingly involved in producing fabrication-ready information for complex off-site manufactured MEP assemblies and modules. Typical responsibilities will include: Produce and amend detailed MEP CAD drawings. Develop coordinated Mechanical and Electrical layouts. Work from engineering drawings, specifications and design information. Support the development of increasingly detailed BIM models. Work closely with Design, Engineering and Manufacturing teams. Translate coordinated designs into practical manufacturing information. Visit the workshop floor to understand how designs are fabricated and assembled. Assist with drawing coordination, revisions and technical documentation. Develop your knowledge of LOD 400 and fabrication-level modelling. Help build and maintain standard details, component libraries and drawing information. ABOUT YOU We're interested in CAD professionals who already understand the fundamentals of Mechanical or Electrical Building Services. You might currently be working as a: MEP CAD Technician Mechanical CAD Technician Electrical CAD Technician Building Services CAD Technician Experience with AutoCAD is important and any exposure to Revit, BIM, 3D modelling or fabrication software would be advantageous, but we're not expecting you to arrive as an LOD 400 specialist. What matters is that you're technically curious, accurate, comfortable working with engineers and genuinely interested in developing your skills. WHY CONSIDER IT? There aren't many CAD positions where you can walk out of the design office and see what you've drawn being manufactured. You'll gain hands on exposure to off site manufacturing, detailed MEP coordination and fabrication-level design whilst being supported to develop towards LOD 400. Our client operates within the rapidly growing Data Centre and Critical Infrastructure market, delivering technically sophisticated projects throughout the UK and internationally. For someone with solid CAD experience who wants to develop into BIM, detailed coordination and off site manufacturing, there is considerable scope to build a specialist career here.

Skilled Careers
Computer Aided Design Technician
Skilled Careers
I'm currently working with a well-established structural engineering practice in North London that is looking to bring an experienced Senior Structural CAD Technician into its small and growing team. This is a great opportunity for a technician who enjoys being heavily involved in the technical delivery of projects and wants to work within a close-knit consultancy where your experience will genuinely be valued. The Role The position is predominantly CAD-based, with around 95% of your workload being AutoCAD. Revit experience is not essential, making this a particularly good opportunity for an experienced CAD technician who has perhaps been put off roles that place too much emphasis on BIM. You'll work closely with the engineers and wider design team, producing detailed structural drawings across a varied portfolio of projects. The project workload includes: High-end residential properties Hotels Refurbishment and alteration projects Schools and education projects Domestic housing New-build developments The projects vary in size and complexity, so there is plenty of opportunity to use your technical knowledge rather than simply producing repetitive drawings. About You We're looking for someone with solid experience as a Structural CAD Technician, ideally within a UK structural engineering consultancy. You should have: Experience producing structural drawings for construction A good understanding of building structures and construction methods The ability to work independently and take ownership of your drawings Experience working closely with structural engineers Good communication skills and attention to detail Revit is not essential - the priority is finding someone who is genuinely strong technically in AutoCAD. The Consultancy You'll be joining a small, established structural engineering team, giving you the opportunity to work closely with senior engineers and have a genuine influence on project delivery. The company offers a friendly, collaborative environment, varied project exposure and hybrid working, providing a good balance between flexibility and being part of the team. If you're an experienced Structural CAD Technician looking for a role where AutoCAD remains the primary tool, rather than being expected to become a full-time Revit technician, this could be an excellent fit.
