We currently have a vacancy for a Product System Design Authority at our site in Cowes.As a Product System Design Authority, you will be accountable for the safety of the products through technical leadership of the delivery teams, owning technical risks where required, and being responsible for the design integrity and safety for Land Radar products and services offered, you will be providing the technical leadership to the Land Radar teams involved in product bids and campaigns, by applying technical expertise to create innovative design and solution responses to requests for information as well as overseeing and mentoring systems engineers within in the Subsector.This role will provide you with the opportunity of working on the next product enhancement for Commander systems developing product capability. The Commander project which is high profile will give you greater exposure within the wider BAE Systems business.This can be a remote working role with visits to site as and when required.Your main responsibilities as a Product System Design Authority will involve:Technical ownership of the land radar system product requirements, operational performance and radar behavioursOwning the system definition, defining the requirements, interfaces and trade-offs required to meet the product, programme, business and customer operational benefitsEnsuring the products meet all contractual, regulatory and legislative requirementsLeading the Land Radar teams and guide the technical design processes and resultant solutions; retaining focus on the technical compliance, system complexity, 'design for' trade-offs and schedule constraintsDeveloping and owning the product plans; working closely with Chief Technologist to ensure the technology pushes and pulls required are aligned with the technology planEnsuring the product plans are in-line with Radar strategy, utilising the common technologiesLeading internal design reviews for the systems. Act of the technical focus point for all LCM and external reviews, preparing and presenting technical aspects to those involved as requiredWorking in conjunction with the other SDAs ensuring that information and experience are spread amongst the community and adequate challenge is given to plans and design principles.Being the technical lead through involvement in and support of winning business and bid management activitiesYour skills and qualifications:Degree qualified in a relevant areas and/or proven experienceSignificant knowledge of Radar Systems or similar complex military equipmentKnowledge and experience of Lifecycle Management, Risk Analysis and Management, Reliability, Maintainability and LogisticsGood understanding of compliance with regards to engineering policies and processesRelevant knowledge of the competitors, their product ranges and future capability enhancementsChartered Engineer is highly desirableWhat we're looking for in you:You can communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with subordinates, colleagues, clients and customers at all levels and can explain difficult technical subject matters to non-specialists and other engineers making you an excellent team leader/player.
