Senior Infrastructure Engineer
Story Terrace Inc. City, London
About the Company: Legal 500 was founded by John Pritchard in 1987 as the original clients' guide to law firms, the first of its kind. It is now a data-driven, AI-optimised research platform which benchmarks, informs and connects providers and users of legal services in over 100 countries worldwide. Our research and data are trusted and relied upon by corporate clients globally as an essential part of the process, both of instructing law firms with new mandates, and when reviewing existing mandates or panels. We exist to empower both buyers and sellers in the international legal marketplace to make better decisions and have improved outcomes for their organisations. This is achieved by leveraging a trusted, comprehensive research process with a unique, vast, proprietary and constantly updated set of client-supplied data, unrivalled in the market. On the supply side of the legal market, every year Legal 500's team of over 150 researchers, technologists, data analysts, journalists and content specialists collate and review 60,000+ data-submissions from law firms and conduct interviews with thousands of leading law firm partners. On the demand side, Legal 500 analyses confidential data from 300,000+ commercial law firm clients to benchmark law firms and lawyers by practice area; industry; jurisdiction; as well as by proprietary client satisfaction metrics, NPS, and other qualitative and quantitative criteria. Legal 500 is the only source of this depth of global research and data on law firms, lawyers and their clients. Role Overview: We're hiring a Senior Infrastructure Engineer on a 12-month Fixed Term Contract to support delivery across our on-prem and cloud environments. This role is delivery-focused - it's about getting things done, not growing into leadership. The role supports a longer-term team development plan internally. We're looking for the person we bring in to enable that development plan, not compete with it. Key Role Objectives: • Execute hands-on infrastructure work across BAU and project streams • Deliver project outcomes with minimal oversight • Provide knowledge transfer and technical mentoring by example (not formal coaching) • Support existing infrastructure while helping us modernise and improve operational efficiency Technical Profile: Our ideal candidate is someone strong across the following areas: • Hybrid environments : Hyper-V, Windows Server, local storage • Networking : SonicWall firewalls (HA pair), VPN, general routing/switching fundamentals • Cloud : Microsoft Azure (including basic automation), Intune, Teams migrations • Telephony : Exposure to SIP-based systems (Avaya ideal, but not essential) • Scripting : PowerShell - ideally someone who documents their work and can tidy or refactor existing scripts Bonus : Any experience with transitions (on-prem to cloud), modernising infra, or cleanup/consolidation work. Working Style / Expectations: • Adaptable, dependable, and delivery-oriented. • Someone who can jump in, get on with the work, and flex as priorities shift. • Not chasing progression or trying to embed permanently - this is not a stepping stone into a longer-term leadership role. • Happy working solo or alongside others - a balance of independent ownership and being a good team player. • Comfortable engaging with people outside the IT team in a personable, clear, and collaborative way. This is a skilled delivery role with a clear purpose and an end date - and the right person will thrive in that clarity. Location: Fleet Street, Central London (Onsite) Employment Type: Full-time / 12 month Fixed Term Contract Please note: This role is 5 days per week in the office on Fleet Street, central London. Salary: £60,000 to £67,500

Senior Technologist
Megaslice
About Us Megaslice is a boutique technology consultancy, focused on projects that turn non-technology businesses into technology businesses, which involves large elements of ambition, risk and creativity. We are not about straightforward websites or apps. There are enough people out there doing that. Our work spans many areas of technology, across hardware and software, from low-level programming to lofty technological strategy at an executive level. And whatever we are doing, we are intensely focused on using technology to make our customers' situations better, and boost their businesses. We are a small business, but we run on a model similar to that of lawyers: the partners are always ultimately responsible for the work, and must understand every detail of what's going on. But just as lawyers need paralegals, we need talented associates to support us in our work. About the Job We are looking for multitalented technology people, at any level of experience, who are interested in a lot of things, and find that no specific job description suits them. We are looking for those amongst us who don't know where they fit in, but feel they fit in everywhere, and that one job would limit them. Skills and Experience We are more interested in your character, your attitude and your route here than in your formal work experience. But with that said: First and foremost, you must love technology. An "extracurricular" interest is strongly preferred. Provable personal responsibility for a mid-5-figure-budget project. Comfortable dealing with every level of the SDLC, from initial requirements to operational deployment. No qualms about working anywhere in the tech stack, be it frontend, backend, database, OS, or hardware. You must be very comfortable with surrounding concerns such as hardware and networking. Having a range of "maker" style experience will be a huge weighting factor in your selection. Learning aggressively and widely is already part of who you are. Know how to manage and direct a small team of more junior engineers (approx. 2 or 3). Know how to manage and communicate with clients and other suppliers. Believe that no task is beneath you when in the service of the end goal. Be comfortable with risk and the unknown, and be patient with adversity and irrationality. Communicate technology respectfully to those not technologically minded. Balance diligence and quality with getting things done on time. Write and communicate clearly, accurately, and concisely. Understand we are a small business, and your work has a significant impact on our survival. Perks No artificial restrictions on the time and place of your work. We can do remote and we can do in-person. It all depends on the actual work to be done, not an arbitrary attendance policy. All your reasonable work-related travel and expenses will be reimbursed, and as we build trust with you, you will be assigned a card to make payments, as well as a discretionary budget. We will give you access to training platforms and courses, and work with you to create a personal development plan, wherein we commit to improving your skills. No restrictions on the tools you want to use, as long as you can interoperate with the rest of us, and accept a little bit of our standard comms infrastructure. Getting the right equipment to do the job is rarely a problem, and there is no laborious approval process. Ask and get an answer fast. Challenges The business is doing well, but we have a lot more work on than we quite have the capacity for, so it will be pretty hard (but interesting!) work while we continue to hire. We work very hard to ensure we meet our customer's expectations, which might sometimes mean a blurring of the boundary between work life and normal life. We do try to avoid this for everyone's sanity! You may be asked to do almost anything, including travel, some physical labour, joining sales meetings, etc., not just desk/workshop stuff. While we will never ask or force anyone to work more than 40 hours a week, the timing of those hours can be a little weird and antisocial, due to the ambitious and complex nature of our projects.
