Head of Legal Rate: 500 per day - Negotiable DOE Contract Length: 3-6-month initial contract East Midlands Local Authority Hybrid Working - 2-3 days on-site We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Head of Legal to join a local authority based in the East Midlands. This is a rare and high-impact leadership opportunity to help shape the future of Legal and Governance Services at the council. You will play a pivotal role in setting strategic direction, promoting good governance, and ensuring the Council operates lawfully, ethically and transparently - always placing citizens at the heart of everything we do. Key Responsibilities Provide strategic leadership, direction and management of Legal and Governance Services. Provide expert, timely and pragmatic legal advice on complex and sensitive matters across local government law, including: Constitutional and administrative law Planning Social care Property and contracts Information governance Litigation and judicial review Oversee significant legal cases and manage external legal support where required. Strengthen governance arrangements, democratic processes and member conduct frameworks. About You You will be a senior legal leader with: A current practising certificate issued by the Solicitors Regulation Authority or Bar Standards Board. Extensive experience operating at a strategic level within a large, complex organisation. A strong track record of advising senior management and elected members on complex and sensitive issues. In-depth knowledge of local government law, governance and democratic processes.
