If you want to develop new skills, there'll be plenty of opportunities: many of our current team joined as back-end or front-end developers, and are now working across the full stack. The Tech we use Our platform is built with multiple PHP 8 applications running on Symfony (5.4/7. ), all deployed within Docker containers on a Kubernetes cluster hosted on AWS. Our mission? To provide them with the best renting experience in the world We started Goodlord because we wanted to make renting simple and transparent for everyone involved: the agent, the landlord, and the tenant. We knew Generation Rent would lead to more tenants, with higher digital expectations and we were confident we could provide a solution Like all scale-ups it's been a bit of a rollercoaster journey, but we're now stronger than ever, with around 3,000 letting agents using the platform, exciting and varied products and 350+ Goodlordians across the group supporting the mission! The Opportunity: Work with Product Managers, business stakeholders and other Engineers to understand end user problems and implement appropriate solutions Address issues raised within the application that prevent users from achieving their goals Identify bottlenecks in the development process and suggest/implement improvements Continuously improve the code base to make it easier to understand and more fun to work with Perform self defined tasks geared towards your personal and professional development What we need from you: Strong experience developing complex web applications across the full stack - from databases (e.g. MySQL) and APIs to front-end UIs. We use PHP and Symfony on the server side and React and TypeScript on the client side Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code, with a focus on quality and long-term maintainability. We use Cypress, Behat and PHPUnit for automated testing Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineers, product managers, and designers Take initiative, demonstrate ownership from ideation to deployment, and consistently align your work with broader business objectives. Experience of working in an agile delivery environment (e.g. Kanban) with rapid iteration cycles You've participated in technical hiring, interviews, or talent development efforts Proactive in mentoring, sharing knowledge, and contributing to team growth and development What's in it for you: Grow with Goodlord: your development is important to us. Full-stack Software Engineer
Building Atlas
We are Building Atlas. Our vision is a fully sustainable commercial real estate sector. Our mission is to make this a reality through rapidly scaling building retrofits: the most sustainable building is the one that already exists. With a zero-touch approach, requiring nothing but the addresses of buildings, we help owners of commercial real estate portfolios: (1) find the best path to retrofitting their buildings; (2) avoid stranding risk and increase the value of their assets; (3) and get access to preferential financing and delivery partners to get the work done. Our goal is to get as many buildings as possible retrofitted, so we recommend retrofit measures that bring the highest return on investment. Choosing the right building to focus on requires understanding its physics (building envelope and the energy systems), its current lease terms and use, its current value and future "green premium," and the value of energy flexibility in a future grid. We gather all this data and build machine learning models to find the optimum retrofits across a portfolio of buildings. To make this possible, we're building a diverse team of people passionate about solving climate change in the built environment. We're a hybrid team, with office space in London and Edinburgh where we meet regularly. Tasks We are seeking an experienced developer for our growing development team. Our user-facing web app is built in Ruby on Rails with Hotwire, and our back-end services are mostly Python. You should have experience of both, as well as a pragmatic approach to choosing what goes where. We're deploying in Google Cloud Platform and so experience there is a strong plus. The key responsiblites of the role are: Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable code in Ruby on Rails and Python. Help maintain code quality, organisation, and automation. Contribute to maintaining and improving our automated testing and deployment processes. Work closely with the founders and product managers to understand and fulfil business requirements. Participate in code reviews and collaborate with other developers to ensure best practices. Requirements Technical skills: 3+ years of experience in full-stack development with a focus on Ruby on Rails. As part of this, you will also be proficient in standard front-end technologies such as JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3. Some experience in Python, including writing code that has gone into production. Demonstrated experience with data ingestion from various sources, including APIs and data downloads. Familiarity with database technologies (preferably PostgreSQL experience). Experience with cloud-based deployment and management, preferably with GCP. Soft skills: Strong communication skills, with fluency in English. You take ownership of the tasks that you are assigned, work to understand the business context and help define what's needed to be built. As we're a small team, you will also be a flexible person, who is happy to help where needed and contribute to other technology areas. Additionally, having some of the following would be highly desirable: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Full time
We are Building Atlas. Experience with geographic or urban datasets, e.g. addresses, building characteristics or energy data. Experience with Hotwire, htmx, intercooler.js, or similar Experience in a company that has developed a B2B SaaS product. Experience working in a fast-growing startup environment. Experience with AI / LLM-based coding tools. Passion for climate work. Candidates must be located in the UK and must already possess the right to work in the UK.
