Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist - Buckinghamshire CAMHS We are recruiting for a part-time 6 Programmed Activity (PA) Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Buckinghamshire CAMHS Recovery Teams, previously known as Getting More Help. This position is a new addition to the consultant establishment following successful recruitment and a reduction in locum usage. The role provides senior psychiatric clinical input and leadership within a recently redesigned service delivering targeted mental health care to children and young people with predominantly emotional disorders, including neurodivergent young people. The Recovery Teams are structured to support two cohorts: young people who benefit from focused psychological and/or psychiatric interventions, and those with more complex needs requiring intensive multidisciplinary and multi-agency input. You'll work across our main bases at Saffron House in High Wycombe and the Sue Nicholls Centre in Aylesbury, with flexibility based on service needs, commute, and personal preferences. You'll work 6 programmed activities over a minimum of three days, with a job plan typically comprising 75% direct clinical care and 25% supporting professional activities, in line with Royal College of Psychiatrists' guidance. Main duties of the job Provide senior psychiatric clinical input to the Buckinghamshire CAMHS Recovery Teams, holding and managing a defined consultant-level caseload and contributing to new psychiatric assessments and internal case allocations. Offer specialist advice and clinical leadership for complex and high-risk cases, including guidance on risk assessment and risk management, and will actively participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, post-assessment discussions, and service planning forums. Work collaboratively with consultant colleagues and the wider MDT, providing flexibility and cross-cover as required to support a fair and equitable allocation of work and to maintain the team's established culture of peer support. Contributing to service development, quality improvement and evaluation initiatives, as well as participating in teaching and training activities for medical students and medical trainees. Supporting Professional Activities will be undertaken in line with Royal College of Psychiatrists' recommendations and agreed service priorities. The consultant role is central to providing senior clinical oversight, supporting safe and effective care delivery, and contributing to clinical governance within the team. Clinical work is undertaken within a fully staffed MDT, with psychiatric input coordinated by the Lead Consultant to ensure fairness and equity across the consultant group. You will be expected to work flexibly within this system and contribute to a collaborative culture of shared responsibility and peer support. A formal job plan will be agreed three months after appointment and reviewed annually with the Associate Medical Director or Clinical Manager. Supporting Professional Activities may be used to develop agreed interests aligned with service priorities, including service development, quality improvement, and teaching or training. Person Specification Qualifications Fully registered with the General Medical Council Eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register (or Specialist Registrar within 6 months of gaining CCT at time of interview) Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent qualification (in accordance with Royal College of Psychiatrists guidelines) Eligible for Section 12 Approval (Mental Health Act)/ Approved Clinician or willing to apply for such approval once in post. Are you a Consultant Psychiatrist within CAMHS interested in delivering and developing ground-breaking Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in historic Wiltshire? You will be a Consultant within our Swindon CAMHS team. As a Consultant you will be responsible for supporting your manager in ensuring that our service users' needs are met through the delivery of high-quality care. As a centre of excellence, you will offer a person-centred approach to their independence and well-being. You will have clinical leadership opportunities to develop services across the patch and medical education/ supervision. Main duties of the job Provide clinical leadership and medical input to the team. The postholder will take responsibility for those patients seen by himself/herself, together with those patients seen by medical staff directly supervised by them. With other consultants in the team, have responsibility for the clinical governance as clinical leads for the team. The team will assess all emergencies referred to it within a day of referral. When necessary, this will include responsibility for Mental Health Act assessment of patients. The Consultant is not expected to make initial assessments, except in certain circumstances. The Consultant psychiatrists will work in partnership within the multidisciplinary team for the clinical management of patients. This will include risk assessment, the assessment of the needs of carers, and the development of services to meet the needs of patients and families for whom the team is responsible. Consultant Psychiatrists within the Swindon team, have a robust system to arrange cross-cover to ensure there is always a psychiatrist available to the service.
