Staff+ Software Engineer, Account Compromise
United States Digital Space LLC
About the company - the company's mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems. About the role the company's Safeguards organization builds the systems that keep Claude safe to use at scale. The Account Compromise team owns one specific slice of that work: protecting the people and organizations who use Claude from losing control of their accounts, and preventing compromised accounts and credentials from being used to abuse our platform. Account takeover, credential stuffing, phishing-driven session theft, leaked API keys, and resold access all cause real harm - to the customers whose accounts are hijacked, and to the wider ecosystem when stolen access is used to route abusive traffic through legitimate accounts. We are looking for a staff+ engineer to set the technical direction for this work. You will own the architecture of how we detect, contain, and remediate account compromise across Claude and the Claude Developer Platform, making the design decisions that other engineers and teams build on top of. You will move between deep technical work and adversarial problem-solving: threat modelling how attackers will adapt, scoping multi-month projects from ambiguous starting points, and leading complex live investigations when they escalate. This is a hard problem space. Attackers iterate quickly, the signals separating a compromised account from an unusual but legitimate one are subtle, and every defence carries a cost to real users if it fires incorrectly. You will be building the playbook, and the judgement calls about where to draw those lines will largely be yours to make and defend. You will operate with high autonomy - owning detection coverage and incident leadership, driving alignment with Security, Product, and Policy teams, and shaping how the company approaches this problem globally rather than executing against someone else's roadmap. Key responsibilities Set the technical direction and own the architecture for account compromise detection, response, and remediation across Claude and the Claude Developer Platform Independently scope and lead complex, multi-month engineering projects from an ambiguous starting point through to production systems that operate reliably under adversarial pressure Build and evolve detection systems that identify account takeover, credential abuse, and compromised API keys in near real time Design automated response flows that cut off attacker access while minimising disruption to legitimate users Lead investigations into significant compromise incidents end to end, then convert what you learn into durable, automated defences Threat model how attackers are likely to adapt, and prioritise the team's work against that view rather than only against incidents already observed Drive cross-organisational alignment on account security direction with Security, Product, Support, Policy and other partners. Define how the team measures success and hold the work to those measures Set technical standards for the domain and raise the bar for other engineers through code review, design review, and mentorship Surface patterns from compromise cases to research and product teams so that protections improve upstream Minimum qualifications 10 + years experience designing, building, and operating detection, anti-fraud, anti-abuse, or security systems in production A track record of independently scoping and delivering complex, ambiguous, multi-month technical projects Experience making architectural decisions in an adversarial domain that other engineers and teams then build on Proficiency in Python and SQL, with strong software engineering fundamentals and hands-on coding ability Experience leading investigations into account-based abuse or security incidents, and translating findings into automated detection Ability to reason rigorously about large behavioural or telemetry datasets, and to distinguish attacker behaviour from unusual but legitimate use Strong written communication and a track record of driving alignment across multiple teams and stakeholders Sound judgement about the tradeoff between stopping bad actors and disrupting legitimate users, and the ability to explain and defend where you have drawn that line Preferred qualifications Significant engineering experience in trust and safety, platform integrity, fraud, or detection and response, including time as a technical lead or mentor Deep familiarity with account attack techniques Experience with authentication and identity systems, including OAuth, single sign-on, multi-factor authentication, device binding, and risk-based authentication Experience applying machine learning to fraud or abuse detection, alongside a clear sense of when simpler rules-based approaches are the better choice Experience with cloud data tooling such as BigQuery, Spark, dbt, Airflow or similar Experience building tooling for operational or investigative teams, and partnering closely with the people who use it Interest in AI safety, and in the specific ways account compromise intersects with model misuse Representative projects - Design the architecture for real-time login risk scoring, and get agreement across Security, Product, and Safeguards on where step-up authentication should and should not fire Design detection for compromised API keys, together with security controls to limit exposure Rebuild product features to regain access quickly when customers get compromised Write the threat model that sets the team's roadmap for the next year, and bring the rest of the organisation along with it Instrument a false positive review loop that measures how often the team's defences affect legitimate users, and drive that number down The annual compensation range for this role is listed below. For sales roles, the range provided is the role's On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. Annual Salary: £325,000 - £390,000 GBP Logistics Minimum education: Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience Minimum years of experience: Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices. Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this. We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team. Your safety matters to us. To protect yourself from potential scams, remember that the company recruiters only contact you email addresses. In some cases, we may partner with vetted recruiting agencies who will identify themselves as working on behalf of the company. Be cautious of emails from other domains. Legitimate the company recruiters will never ask for money, fees, or banking information before your first day. If you're ever unsure about a communication, don't click any links-visit the directly for confirmed position openings. How we're different - We're different We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At the company we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact - advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI - rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills. The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to the company, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute . click apply for full job details

Morela is proud to be supporting a private, entrepreneurial family-owned real estate group with a multi-billion-pound property portfolio and a private credit book. Long established, cash generative, and quietly one of the larger privately held property businesses in the country. Not a name you will see on job boards, because they have never needed to advertise. And, remarkably, no data platform. Property management, asset management and accounting all sit in separate systems that do not talk to each other, which means nobody in the business has a single, trusted view of what it owns. They could have bought something off the shelf. They could have handed it to a consultancy. Instead, they have decided to build it properly, in-house, and this is the person who builds it. This is a blank page. You choose the stack. You design the model. You decide what gets built and what gets bought. There is no legacy platform to inherit and no architect sitting above you telling you how it is done. Because the business is family-owned, it actually moves: no steering committee, no six-week approval cycle, no business case to defend three times before you write a line of code. You will sit alongside the principals and the operating teams, so what you build goes live and gets used that week. Get the foundation right and the question that follows is a genuinely interesting one: whether the tooling you have built internally becomes a product in its own right. YOUR ROLE Set the direction. Identify and translate the organisation's highest-value problems into a technical roadmap, balancing a robust platform architecture against rapid delivery. Build the foundation. Design the data model that operates as a single source of truth, and the pipelines that store and reconcile properties, entities, leases, tenants, projects, invoices, cash flows, valuations and documents across multiple sources. Connect the estate. Build integrations with third-party vendors across APIs, webhooks, direct database access and scheduled ingestion. Kill the manual work. Eliminate repetitive manual work across internal workflows: data collection, validation, approvals, reconciliations, reminders, document generation and reporting. Ship what people use. Deliver dashboards, reports, alerts and internal applications that principals and operating teams can trust and actually use. Put AI to work properly. Build LLM pipelines for extraction, classification, retrieval and workflow support, with evaluations, human-in-the-loop oversight and auditability, so it is explainable rather than a black box. Set the bar. Set the standards for security, testing, deployment, monitoring and documentation, manage selected vendors, build the engineering culture, and mentor the junior data engineer. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR A strong record of building and operating reliable pipelines, integrations, data models or platforms that serve real users and business-critical decisions. Strong programming fundamentals in Python, TypeScript and SQL at expert working level, covering testing, performance and maintainability, with the judgement to review others' code and hold a high-quality bar. Confidence building robust REST APIs, working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, modelling data, running ETL/ELT pipelines, and making pragmatic build-versus-buy calls. Experience deploying production systems in AWS, Azure or GCP, accounting for monitoring, secrets management, access control, backups and disaster recovery. Experience with production LLM pipelines: context engineering, evaluation, retrieval, tool use and guardrails. Experience taking a platform from prototype to production or working in an early-stage environment with a rapidly evolving product. Mature judgement handling financially sensitive, personal and commercially confidential information in a regulated industry. The ability to set direction, mentor a junior colleague and introduce engineering discipline while staying practical, fast and close to end users. Curiosity about how internal tools can be abstracted and generalised into a product. HELPFUL, BUT NOT ESSENTIAL Proptech, fintech, accounting technology, asset management, construction, private investment operations or another data-intensive regulated environment. Modern data warehouses, transformation and orchestration tooling, business intelligence platforms and internal web applications. Document processing, OCR, search and retrieval systems, workflow engines or human-in-the-loop review tools. UK data protection, information security and operational resilience principles. WHY THIS ONE IS WORTH A CONVERSATION Scope most senior engineers never get. The platform is yours to define, not someone else's to maintain. Direct access to the people who decide, without the layers that slow good engineering down. Real AI work with real constraints, where auditability and evaluation matter as much as the model. The stability of a long-established, cash-generative business, with the pace and the blank page of an early-stage one. THE PROCESS Morela is supporting this search and managing the process end to end. If the brief resonates, get in touch for a confidential conversation before you commit to anything; the client is named only once you are happy to be represented. Appointment will be subject to appropriate references, background checks and a confidentiality agreement. We welcome applicants from different backgrounds whose skills and evidence meet the requirements, and reasonable adjustments are available throughout the process. Role Purpose We are seeking an experienced Project Delivery Manager to join the EMEA Small Works Program within the Engineering function. This role operates as a governance and subject matter expert (SME) resource, providing structured support to IFM teams across EMEA in the delivery of small-scale capital projects - including building retrofits, refurbishments, workspace reconfigurations, and targeted facility improvements. This is not a traditional end-to-end project management role. The primary function is to enable local FM teams to deliver projects compliantly, safely, and frugally by providing governance oversight, procurement guidance, technical SME support, and structured project frameworks. Direct end-to-end project delivery will only apply in cases deemed critical, high-visibility, or where project complexity requires dedicated program-level management. The role sits within the EMEA Small Works Program and operates across a tiered delivery model: Reports to - EMEA Small Works Program Lead (Engineering). Governance & Compliance Oversight Provide governance support to FM teams delivering Tier 2 projects, ensuring adherence to the Small Works framework, CAPEX governance processes, and client standards. Support the triage process to ensure projects are correctly categorized within the tiered model and appropriately resourced. Ensure EHS, legislative, and legal compliance requirements are actively governed across all supported projects, spanning multiple EMEA jurisdictions. Monitor compliance with CDM regulations (where applicable), building regulations, health and safety requirements, and client-specific standards. Ensure workspace design standards and regulatory requirements are maintained throughout project delivery. SME Support & FM Team Enablement Act as a subject matter expert resource for FM teams managing Tier 2 projects - providing guidance on project methodology, sequencing, risk management, and technical approach. Provide procurement guidance to FM teams, ensuring competitive quotations are obtained from approved contractors and that works are delivered frugally within scope. Coordinate SME input where specialist technical knowledge is required (mechanical, electrical, building fabric, sustainability). Coach and support FM teams on the application of Small Works tools, templates, and governance standards for Tier 1 delivery. Act as an escalation point for FM teams encountering project challenges, scope changes, or compliance queries. Project Triage & Categorization Support the Small Works Program Lead in operating the triage process - assessing incoming project requests against complexity criteria to determine appropriate tier allocation. Identify projects at risk of scope misclassification and ensure early intervention to prevent cost overruns or delivery failures. Recommend escalation to WD&C where project complexity exceeds Small Works scope. Financial Oversight & Procurement Guidance Provide financial governance support for Tier 2 projects (typically sub-€150K), ensuring budgets are realistic, tracked, and reported. Guide FM teams on procurement processes, contractor selection, and cost control within approved frameworks. Review and advise on variations, cost changes, and final accounts where FM teams require support. Contribute to CAPEX forecasting and budget reporting for the Small Works portfolio within assigned geographic areas. Direct Project Delivery (Critical/High-Visibility Only) Manage end-to-end delivery of projects designated as critical, high-visibility, or requiring dedicated program-level oversight. Ensure these projects are completed on time, within budget, and to specification while minimizing disruption to building occupants. Maintain comprehensive project records including correspondence, RFIs, site instructions, progress reports, and as-built documentation for directly managed projects. Stakeholder Management & Coordination Serve as a key interface between FM teams, the Small Works Program, WD&C, and client stakeholders for Tier 2 projects. Coordinate with WD&C on project handoffs, triage decisions, and boundary management between projects. Communicate project progress, risks, and governance status to the Small Works Program Lead and wider stakeholders. Build effective working relationships with FM teams across assigned geographic areas to ensure the program is embedded and trusted. Program Tools, Reporting & Continuous Improvement Maintain and update the IFM Project Tracker for assigned projects and geographic areas. Utilize and promote standardized Small Works templates, tools, and reporting mechanisms. Report on program KPIs including speed of delivery, cost efficiency, safety and compliance, and quality consistency. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in governance processes, tools, and FM team support mechanisms. Contribute to the ongoing development and refinement of the Small Works framework. Sound Like You? To Apply You Need to Have Essential Qualifications & Experience Degree in Construction Management, Building Services Engineering, Facilities Management, or related discipline (or equivalent experience). Minimum 3-5 years' experience in construction project management, building refurbishment, or facilities management - with demonstrable experience in governance, compliance oversight, or program support functions. Understanding of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building fabric. Knowledge of building regulations, EHS requirements, and compliance frameworks across multiple jurisdictions. Familiarity with CDM regulations and construction health and safety practices. Experience supporting or enabling operational teams in the delivery of projects (not solely direct delivery experience). Understanding of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building fabric. Knowledge of building regulations, EHS requirements, and compliance frameworks across multiple jurisdictions. Familiarity with CDM regulations and construction health and safety practices. Experience with procurement processes, contractor management, and cost control. Experience operating within a structured program or portfolio environment. Essential Skills Strong governance mindset - ability to apply frameworks consistently while remaining pragmatic. Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities, particularly in enabling and influencing teams without direct authority. Proficient in project planning, budgeting, and cost control. Strong organizational skills with ability to oversee multiple concurrent projects across different sites and countries. Problem-solving mindset with a coaching and enablement approach. Competent using MS Office, project management software, and digital collaboration tools. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
