Job overview Gastroenterology Consultant Post: The Department of Gastroenterology at Croydon University Hospital is a strong department looking to expand and continue to deliver excellence for patients of Croydon. The department currently consists of 4 full time consultant and 1 part-time consultant. This appointment will ensure that department continues to deliver an excellent outpatient, endoscopy and inpatient service for Croydon. Croydon University Hospital is a busy District General Hospital, serving the population of Croydon. Within this role you can look forward to a professional structure where we have excellent links with the local GPs, as well as the opportunity to work in a large and developing department with enthusiastic colleagues. It is expected that the applicants will be experienced in gastroenterology and upper and lower GI endoscopy. They will be expected to participate in the general medical on-call, as well as a regional second on-call GI bleed rota. The successful applicants should have an audit and research portfolio, with an ongoing interest in expanding the portfolio and participation in clinical trial recruitment. They should also demonstrate management responsibilities and a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff. Main duties of the job The post holder will be responsible for providing inpatient care to approximately 14 GI patients on the Gastroenterology firm. They will be on-call 1 in 26 for acute medicine. A linked GIM Consultant provides inpatient care to the GIM patients assigned to the firm. The successful applicant will partake in a ward cover (consultant-of-the-week) rota, spending one week in five covering the ward and referrals (with suspension of usual morning programmed activities). The post holder will be expected to have between 2 and 3 endoscopy lists per week: one training, one mixed and/or one dedicated to Colitis surveillance as well as two outpatient clinics. This post is aimed at Gastroenterologists with a sub-specialist interest in Inflammatory Bowel disease and/or therapeutic upper and lower GI endoscopy. Another area which requires development at the trust is participation in GI clinical trials. Person specification Qualifications MB BS or equivalent Inclusion in the Specialist Register for Gastroenterology or equivalent and General (Internal) Medicine, or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview. Name on Specialist Register on date of taking appointment. Full registration with the GMC Higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent) Audit Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit. Must have undertaken and completed audit projects. Training and Experience Fully trained in Gastroenterology and or Hepatology, and Upper & Lower GI endoscopy with evidence of JAG accreditation At least 2 years' substantive previous NHS experience at SPR level (or equivalent). Evidence of advanced training Evidence of advanced training in ERCP and diagnostic EUS Experience in day to day organisation of services in a busy hospital Willingness to develop further in ERCP, therapeutic EUS and Hepatology Experience in the development of clinical guidelines Management and Leadership Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams Ability to organise and manage work Understanding of the principles of clinical governance Management course and/or qualification Evidence of experience managing clinical service change Research and Publications Experience of clinical research. Relevant research experience in one or more aspects of specialty specific topic Publication of relevant review articles or case reports.
