Element Six, part of De Beers Group, is seeking a scientist/engineer to join the Global Innovation Centre in Harwell, Oxfordshire. The role focuses on CVD diamond materials, offering training and opportunities to develop new techniques and processes in a collaborative environment. The successful candidate will work with advanced synthesis reactors and analytical tools, contribute to project work packages, and help patent new methods while interfacing with academic and commercial partners.

Outline of the role Utilise state-of-the-art CVD synthesis reactors, analytical equipment and tools to synthesise, characterise and process diamond materials Develop, understand and utilise techniques to enhance material manufacturing capabilities such as polishing and shaping. Design and execute work packages and analyse data to inform onward innovation. Invent and patent new CVD growth and processing methods towards novel diamond products and solutions. Develop value add processes, such as by treatments, brazing, metallization, ion implantation, and mounting, to tailor diamond components for integration into customers applications. Collaborate and communicate with internal and external commercial and academic partners on materials and applications development and testing. Scientist or engineer with an undergraduate degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or a relevant Engineering subject. An ability to complete practical laboratory work which requires attention to detail, in a safe and systematic way. A demonstrated willingness and ability to learn quickly and apply new skills and techniques to practically solve novel problems. Strong analytical skills for data capture and interpretation. Good interpersonal and presentational skills, and able to work effectively as part of a team. The role includes support on international tax aspects adjacent to transactions including, but not limited to, capital structure, financing, cash repatriation. M&A tax Work with the Senior Tax Manager - M&A to ensure the delivery of best practice tax advice for transactions and provide tax advice to Group Tax Business Partner teams associated with transactions. Assist with tax due diligence processes including preparation of virtual data rooms, review of diligence reports and, where relevant, provide input and responses as part of the purchaser Q&A process. Identify structure alternatives to inform commercial decisions and prepare tax structuring reports. Work closely with the BD team to assess idea development and business cases for BD activities and add value to development of transactional possibilities through provision of commercial appropriate tax advice. Work with external providers & relevant in-house teams to deliver commercially appropriate tax advice. International tax Work with the Senior Tax Manager: M&A on legal entity reorganisation, rationalisation and restructuring projects which are ongoing in the group. Work closely with the rest of the Group Tax Country Tax leads to implement proposed restructures and provide input on the UK tax considerations of such transactions. Work with the Senior Tax Manager: M&A and colleagues in other Group Finance (notably Group Treasury) and BU teams to unlock value in optimising a commercially sound capital allocation (including cash repatriation) across the Anglo American group Help design and support appropriate financing structures for a mixture of projects at various stages of the lifecycle, with new opportunities constantly arising through refinancing and as Anglo American looks to grow. Provide, and support the provision of tax advice to Country Tax Leads associated with financing, capital structure and cash repatriation strategies. Advise on UK treasury tax matters, including loan relationships, foreign exchange, loan restructures and simplifications. Strategic Priorities Support strategic tax initiatives, assess value generated for Anglo American, and consider different options and adjustments required to the plan. Drive and implement the plan of strategic initiatives, including consideration of the communication required at different levels of the organisation.
