About the role We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated researcher with strong expertise in cell biology interested in developing novel more sensitive screening approaches for molecular glue identification to accelerate drug discovery in the targeted protein degradation field. The Schreiber lab is part of the Prosperity Partnership between the Francis Crick Institute, AstraZeneca and Imperial College London which is focused on developing a rule book for the rational discovery of molecular glue degraders. We are studying how autophagy and the ubiquitin proteasome system can be utilized to target a wide range of currently undruggable disease relevant targets (e.g. protein aggregates and damaged mitochondria). The ultimate aim is to unlock novel biology and exploit its revolutionary therapeutic potential. Dependent on funding, there is potential for this role to be extended after the initial contract term. The Francis Crick Institute (the Crick) is a research institute dedicated to discovering the fundamental biology underlying human health, with the aim of improving the treatment, diagnosis and prevention of human disease. The Crick was formed on 1 April 2015 and is a registered charity. It is a partnership between the Medical Research Council (MRC), Cancer Research UK (CRUK), the Welcome Trust, University College London (UCL), Imperial College London and King's College London. The Crick is located in a purpose-built research centre in central London (next to St Pancras International), housing some 1,250 researchers and 250 support staff. As our BRF GeMS Research Scientist , you will interact closely with other members of the lab, and the wider GM Service. In addition, the post-holder will interact with other scientists and staff across other labs at the Crick, staff across the Biological Research Facility and with other local and off-site services. You will be required to heavily contribute to both the cryopreservation and ART service, and the gene delivery process, through microinjection and electroporation. They would be required to track and report on progress and are expected to improve the service, for example by seeking specialist training, improving protocols or by generating or involvement in specific development projects. Responsibilities of our BRF GeMS Research Scientist will include : Participating across all areas of the GeMS Transgenic Service, being a key contributor to the cryopreservation and gene delivery work in the team. Assisting other members of the team, as well as the wider BRF, to achieve the delivery of specialist services that support scientific research at the Crick. Undertaking reasonable work requests and when required participating in essential out of hour rota's. Working closely with the Head of GeMS and the GeMS Senior Manager, the post holder may take a leading role on the day-to-day management and provision of one key area of the Transgenic component of the service, showing initiative, maintaining records, troubleshooting and improving procedures, while fostering and maintaining good client relationships.
