Our client, a leading force in maritime design and technology, is currently looking for a Principal Controls Engineer to join their growing team. This role will take ownership of model-based control and algorithm development for Energy Solution products such as Battery Management, High Power DC charging, and Propulsion systems. The Principal Controls Engineer will: Contribute to the application of Functional Safety, collaborating with internal software quality/safety processes and technical experts. Conduct MIL and SIL testing within the software development framework. Develop plant models to support SIL / MIL testing activities. Analyse system requirements and assist in breaking down and drafting control/software specifications. Build and lead the Control Engineering capability within the team, maintaining development processes and toolchains. Create features and algorithms focused on performance, user experience, and safety across a range of energy products from standalone batteries to propulsion systems. The Principal Controls Engineer will have: A (BSc / BEng) degree in a relevant engineering field (Electrical, Electronic, Control, Automotive, or Aerospace Engineering). Hands-on experience with MATLAB Simulink, Stateflow, Simscape, and data communication protocols such as CAN, RS-485 & RS-232. At least 5 years of experience as a Controls Engineer, ideally within electrification or e-mobility sectors. Proven background in Controls development for e-mobility projects, with direct involvement in Propulsion, Battery Management, or Vehicle Control and Energy Management. Strong understanding of data communication protocols including CAN, RS-485 & RS-232. Confidence in cross-functional collaboration and issue escalation. This senior role blends technical leadership with hands-on delivery, focusing on the development of advanced electrification technologies for the wider marine market. The HV / LV Systems Lead - Battery & Charging Systems will: Lead and grow a multidisciplinary electrical engineering team working on HV (High Voltage) and LV (Low Voltage) systems. Act as the technical authority on electrical architecture, power distribution, safety, and control integration. Oversee the development of schematics, harnessing, component selection, and system integration. Collaborate with software and systems teams to support algorithm development for diagnostics and control. Apply systems engineering principles to ensure traceability, validation, and integration of electrical functions. The Principal Systems Engineer will: Champion the development and maintenance of core systems engineering processes and capabilities across the organisation. Manage and engage with Systems Models, ensuring consistent generation, control, and linkage of systems artifacts across multiple projects. Collaborate with technical experts to deliver architectural designs for Energy Solution products that meet complex stakeholder needs. Drive the adoption of new technologies and methodologies where beneficial to the business. Create and maintain traceable systems documentation, including User, Product, and System Requirements Specifications. Lead and coordinate system requirement analysis activities such as Use Case analysis, functional analysis, and safety and robustness evaluations.
