You will need to hold a level 2 (GCSE or functional skills) Maths and English at grade C/4 (pass) or above and be able to demonstrate transferable skills such problem solving, communication and team work by answering a few application questions. Over two years, you ll combine hands-on police work with academic study, earning a fully-funded level 5 in Professional Policing Practice. And yes, you ll be paid while you train, starting on a salary of £31,164 , which increases to £32,472 once you complete your initial training. In your third year, you will be required to complete and achieve a set of organisational objectives. Your first 12 weeks will focus on professional training with our Learning Team and the University of the West of England. From there, you ll join the Patrol team as an operational officer, stepping into the heart of frontline policing. History & Heritage Volunteer - Portishead Role type: Volunteer Location: Portishead, Police Headquarters, Valley Road, Portishead - BS20 8QJ Responsibilities Assist with the storage, cleaning and labelling of items in the archive, including uniforms, photographs, documents and equipment. Arrange and rotate displays of uniforms and artefacts in the force museum, including signage and information sheets. Engage positively with internal and external stakeholders by delivering talks or presentations on the force's History and Heritage. Maintain the History and Heritage electronic archive: add new entries, perform regular backups, improve data quality, and share archive content as appropriate. Scan and transcribe hard copy documents for future preservation. Monitor the group mailbox and respond to enquiries in a professional manner. Arrange collection of donations using the ASC resource. Attend and contribute to meetings of the H&H Group electronically or in person. Required skills and experience Computer literacy, including familiarity with Outlook (training will be provided). Ability to collate and present information to diverse audiences. Passion for preserving and sharing the history of policing. All applicants will be subject to the Force Vetting Policy, must undertake and maintain safeguarding training, and are required to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Check (DBS) every three years. You will work alongside police officers and other partners to tackle crime, anti-social behaviour, and build strong relationships with the public. Your role is vital in ensuring that communities feel safe and supported. This isn t a role that requires arrest powers; it s about connecting, listening, and resolving issues to make a lasting difference. Key Responsibilities: Engaging with the community to build trust and provide reassurance. Foster relationships with residents, businesses, schools, and organisations to address concerns and build strong connections. Patrolling designated areas to deter crime and anti-social behaviour. Providing crime prevention advice and support to local residents. Assisting with public events and community initiatives. Supporting victims of crime and signposting them to appropriate services. Gathering intelligence to support police investigations. Addressing low-level offences and working with partner agencies to resolve community issues.
