About The Role: The role of Environmental Manager will report into the Senior Environmental Compliance Manager and is critical to the environmental compliance of NHS Property Services. The role will function as part of the Energy and Environment team whose aim is to reduce the environmental and financial impact our portfolio has on the NHS. The Environmental Manager will assist the Senior Environmental Compliance Manager with ensuring all legal and other compliance obligations applicable to the organisation are fulfilled, the implementation of the NHS adaptation plan, implementation of an effective Environmental Management System (EMS) as well promoting biodiversity initiatives within the business. Key Responsibilities: Ensure the company adheres to all relevant environmental legislation and regulatory requirements as well as support local functions and directorates in fulfilling their obligations. Develop and manage environmental compliance audit schedule Carryout site preliminary environmental assessments, inspections and audits when required. Develop, manage and review relevant environmental action plans to ensure environmental compliance across the business. Be accountable for updating and managing key EMS registers such as the Aspects Register and Legal register) Support the implementation of the business Environmental Management System Manage the Environment SharePoint page as well as the EMS manual Develop and implement relevant environmental process, procedures, and guide Support the delivery of Performance Indicators to ensure the business achieves continuous improvement (e.g., environmental incident management). Develop and deliver environment related training Manage work under 3rd Party vendors ensuring project delivery with timely delivery and achievement of project milestones Coordinate the delivery of the company's climate adaptation management plan. Coordinate the delivery of environmental projects including biodiversity to ensure successful and timely completion. Support the environmental engagement programmes and provide guidance and support to the Environmental Leads and Champions. Attend and/or provide information to wider NHS teams on environmental performance Actively promote awareness both internal and external using existing communication platforms Experience & Skillset: To succeed in this role, candidates should be educated to a degree level in appropraite environmental discipline or have an equivalent qualification by experience. Professional memerbship to the relevant institution is key (e.g. IEMA/CIEEM/CIWEN). It would beneficial to have an MSc or PhD in Geogrpahy, Environment, Sustainability, or a similar discipline. Experience in environmental audition and provision of training are necessary, as well as an understanding of relevant legislative requirements. It would be beneficial for candidates to be ISO Lead Auditor Certified, and have working knowledge of ISO:14001.
