Consultant - General Adult Psychiatry - Inpatients - Male Site: Tameside General Hospital - Mental Health Unit - Saxon Ward, Town Ashton under Lyne. Grade: NHS Medical & Dental - Consultant. Contract: Permanent, full time - 10 sessions per week (9 5 pm plus on calls). Salary: £113,565 - £150,569 PA, pro rata. Closing date: 23/08/:59. Responsibilities Provide consultant psychiatrist leadership for one acute working age inpatient ward. Undertake comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, risk assessment and formulation for patients admitted to the ward. Lead treatment planning and review, including pharmacological, psychological, social and legal aspects of care, using a bio psycho social approach. Act as Responsible Clinician where appropriate and fulfil duties under the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act. Lead and participate in ward rounds, multidisciplinary reviews, Mental Health Act work, urgent assessments and discharge planning. Work collaboratively with the ward MDT, crisis/home treatment, liaison psychiatry, CMHTs, primary care and relevant partner agencies to support safe admission avoidance, inpatient care and discharge pathways. Provide timely clinical advice to colleagues and contribute to the safe and effective functioning of the inpatient service. Contribute to service evaluation, audit, quality improvement and accreditation activity in line with local and Trust priorities. Qualifications MBBS or equivalent medical qualification; MRCPsych or equivalent psychiatric qualification. Higher degree or qualification in medical education, clinical research, leadership or management. Full GMC registration with licence to practise at the time of appointment; included on the GMC Specialist Register for General Adult Psychiatry or within six months of eligibility; Approved Clinician status or eligibility to achieve this within three months; Section 12 approval or eligibility to achieve this within three months; good standing with the GMC with respect to warnings and conditions on practice. Transport Holds and will use a valid UK driving licence, or can demonstrate an effective alternative means of meeting the travel requirements of the post. Clinical Skills, Knowledge and Experience Excellent knowledge in the specialty; excellent clinical skills using a bio psycho social perspective and broad medical knowledge; excellent oral and written communication skills in English; able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty; makes decisions based on evidence and experience, including the contribution of others; able to fulfil duties under the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act. A broad range of specialist or sub specialist experience relevant to the post within the NHS or a comparable service. Academic Skills and Lifelong Learning Able to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training; able to work in and lead teams; demonstrates commitment to shared leadership and collaborative working; evidence of ongoing CPD; participation in research or service evaluation; able to use and appraise clinical evidence; active participation in audit and quality improvement. Evidence of planning and delivering teaching relevant to the post; reflection on CPD undertaken; experience in clinical research and/or service evaluation; achievements in education, research, audit or service improvement such as presentations, publications, prizes or awards; evidence of leading audit resulting in service change or improved outcomes.
