The Operations Director - Aviation will lead a project and maintenance portfolio with responsibility for projects being delivered to time, quality and budget situated across Heathrow and Gatwick airports. Our airport capability is extensive including planned & reactive maintenance, groundworks, runway resurfacing, asset renewals (such as tunnel and taxi-way upgrades) and further design & build civils projects. We have a long-standing, collaborative relationship with both airports, with integrated project teams and depots situated at Heathrow and Gatwick. Reporting into the Managing Director, the Operations Director - Aviation will have responsibility for all operations at both airports and will have 5 direct reports. Responsibilities Ensure projects and contracts are adequately resourced and are successfully delivered to scope, target cost and quality. Provide direction, motivation and leadership to both internal staff and external sub-contractors engaged in providing support activities to the project. Be accountable for, and deliver, high levels of performance in key areas of health and safety, environment, sustainability and quality and champion continuous improvement and best value Create and implement strategy to increase aviation's capability to successfully take on larger civil engineering projects. Advise the Aviation Director on key project activities and initiatives within the business and present action plans and project delivery status updates to key customers and stakeholders. Commercial performance - summarise information and communicate performance to internal stakeholders. Lead, review and challenge project budgets and forecast to ensure a consistent, challenging but deliverable approach is adopted. Oversee delivery of projects and contracts demonstrating a thorough understanding of associated processes. Implement appropriate monitoring and control mechanisms, policies and procedures to ensure compliance and adherence to statutory requirements, managing the projects risks and opportunities in line with company procedures. Actively seek out, drive and promote service excellence, best practice and continuous improvement initiatives. Manage project and contract costs ensuring maximum utilisation of resources. Coach and motivate the project teams; lead by example. Develop collaborative relationships with the supply chain. Implement the business plan, managing and reviewing performance of contracts against financial and operational targets. Support work winning activity as required including bid strategy, resourcing, overseeing solution development and planning and negotiations. The Person Degree in Civil Engineering, Operations Management, or related field. A background in operations management, with established senior leadership experience. Experience of leading a portfolio of civil engineering projects in the infrastructure sector. Understanding of self-delivery and sub-contractor delivery. Strong strategic planning and organizational skills. Excellent leadership and team management abilities. Proven capability of running projects and frameworks to time and cost. Dyer & Butler are recruiting for a Principal Engineer to work within our Engineering team with an immediate requirement to support our Rail Central team. Our Rail Central team operate in London, Eastern, North West & Central for clients such as Network Rail, TfL, train operators, national housebuilders and National Grid. The portfolio covers civil engineering works as well as HV and LV installations. The Principal Engineer r ole will be required to assist during design development, construction, commissioning / hand back and technical support for tenders. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Perform Line Manager duties ensuring that the team is supported and provided with necessary tools and resources to achieve set goals at the organisational and individual level. • Coordinate and support technical and engineering aspects of a scheme from tender to completion and hand-back. • Collaborate with Dyer & Butler Senior Managers, support teams and delivery teams to ensure that projects are completed in a safe manner whilst client's requirements and expectations are maintained and exceeded. • Proactively review drawings and specifications of allocated projects in the planning stage to ensure safe by design and buildability. • Assist with the preparation of tenders to ensure that competitive and innovative options are considered and reviewed. • Where required, ensure that the technical requirements of the contract are reviewed and understood at tender stage. • Advise tender sponsor of any unusual aspects of the technical requirements and provide information to the risk register including a review of all temporary works necessary and any permanent works design obligations. • Ensure commercial success through consideration of various engineering solutions and selection of the safe stand most economically advantageous option. • Manage effective implementation of the organisations design management and engineering procedures ensuring adequate checks, reviews and inspections are undertaken. • Hold regular reviews and chair meetings as required to ensure interdisciplinary design checks are sufficiently carried out. • Mentor other staff supporting career progression in CRE, CEM, TWC and other engineering roles • Monitor, record and report on performance of design supply chain partners. • Ensure that Dyer & Butler meets its obligations under HASAW Act 1974 and other relevant statutes. • Implement the requirements of the Company Management System (CMS), as applicable to the business operations. • Work with various client's project teams to deliver the required end product. • Mentor, manage, guide and assist Design Managers in safe and efficient execution of their duties as defined in Role Profile undertaking checks and reviews as necessary. • Provide an engineering update briefing quarterly to the CEMs and CREs within the business so they are aware of any relevant standards and procedure changes • Undertake duties of Design Manager as defined in Role Profile when Design Manager is unavailable • Keep up to date with current legislation, relevant standards and industry trends. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, BEHAVIOUR AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: • Qualified to a degree level and chartered MICE • Experienced Temporary Works Co-ordinator. • Proven experience in the civil engineering sector of management and delivery of design and build schemes. • Proven experience in the management, inspection and implementation of temporary works. • Trained as Principal Designer Representative. • Good understanding of technical aspects of civil engineering. • Commitment to the highest practicable standards of health and safety and environmental protection. • Ability to assess risks. • Working knowledge and understanding of CDM roles and relevant Health & Safety legalisation. • Excellent written and oral communication skills. • Desire for self-development and continuous self-improvement. • Demonstrate Dyer and Butler's values and behaviours.

We are excited to present this new opportunity for a talented Civil Engineer who is looking to be involved in a variety of challenging Engineering Projects. The Maintenance team provides technical services for a range of construction-related disciplines and activities, focused on delivering great service every day supporting our clients' primary assets to enable an extraordinary airport, fit for the future. Primarily supporting our Aviation client in Hounslow - this role is suitable for experienced Site Managers, Site Agents, or Engineers looking to progress their career to the next level. ROLE PURPOSE: Support the Project Manager at each stage of the project, including planning, documentation management, procurement, management of labour, and sub-contractors. Ensure excellent safety, standards, and quality are maintained throughout the life cycle of the project. Be client-focused, showing an excellent understanding of the scope of works and managing expectations. Maintain excellent communication between all departments of the internal team and wider business units. Qualifying Criteria: Knowledge of the requirements of Health and Safety and Environmental Standards. Proven capability in delivering technical packages on civil engineering schemes.
