How you'll make a difference In this strategic role, you will lead on delivery of the Property Capital Construction Programme, giving professional and technical advice on the financial and contractual position for construction of property projects. How you'll make a difference As a professionally qualified Health and Safety practitioner you'll will work as part of the Council's Corporate Health & Safety team supporting managers in fulfilling their statutory duties. You will also support the Health and Safety Manager in developing Policy and setting priorities for the team. What will you be doing? You will be allocated areas of H&S specialism including acting as the lead H&S contact for South Gloucestershire Councils Children, Adult and Health division. Every day is different giving you the opportunity to take ownership of managing your own workload and monitoring deadlines and key factor changes. Being able to take in your stride unexpected changes resulting in different priorities and challenges faced. In the role you will be involved in delivering a wide range of H&S functions including the review of corporate policies & guidance documents, development and review of risk assessments and H&S website content, development and delivery of targeted H&S audits and initiatives. You will screen and process accident forms and investigate selected accidents making recommendations on appropriate action. This may require you to travel to other office locations and sites within the South Gloucestershire area to undertake investigations or provide support for service areas. You will analyse and provide statistical interpretation and commentary on accident, incident and dangerous occurrences and deliver this to departmental consultative committees. You will be able to problem solve at a strategic and operational level to ensure risk is controlled in an effective proportionate way. Liaising with external bodies, such as enforcement agencies (HSE, Fire Authority) partner organisations including the Council's insurance provider. What we need from you It is essential that you must be qualified to NEBOSH Dip 6 or equivalent and be CMIOSH or actively working towards CMIOSH with good post-qualification experience. You should have sound knowledge of current H&S legislation and recent experience as a practising health and safety advisor in relevant service activities undertaken by the Council, for example: general health and safety, facility services, social care, civil construction, horticultural services, and customer facing services. You'll need considerable experience in developing and implementing health & safety policy initiatives, including persuading and influencing people of the key priorities and proposals. This will include working with employee safety representatives and Trade Unions. You will need significant experience in working with enforcement agencies (such as HSE, Fire service, Environment Agency) on behalf of a duty-holder organisation. You will have significant experience in incident investigation, report writing and supporting liability claim response. You will be a confident and good communicator with a wide and varied audience, be a good team worker, have a flexible approach to work, be able to meet deadlines and have good IT skills.
