This dual-role position is ideal for someone with experience working in a fast-paced scrap metal or recycling yard. The successful candidate will support day-to-day operations through safe forklift operation, vehicle marshalling, and handling of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. You will play a key role in maintaining smooth traffic flow, safe lifting operations, and efficient yard management. Key Responsibilities Operate forklifts to move, load, and unload ferrous and non-ferrous metals Act as Banksman for HGVs and site vehicles, ensuring safe manoeuvring within the yard Guide plant operators and drivers during loading and unloading operations Carry out daily checks and basic maintenance of forklifts and associated equipment Maintain clear communication with drivers, crane operators, and yard staff Assist with general yard duties including material sorting, stock management, and housekeeping Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations Report any safety hazards, near misses, or equipment faults immediately Required Experience & Qualifications Proven experience as a Forklift Driver and/or Banksman in a metal recycling, construction, or heavy industrial environment Valid Forklift Licence (Counterbalance or equivalent) Banksman / Vehicle Marshal training or certification Strong understanding of safe materials handling and site traffic management Experience working around HGV movements and heavy plant Good awareness of health & safety regulations Desirable (but not essential) Experience within a metal recycling or scrap yard environment Knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metals Additional plant or machinery tickets
