What you'll bring to the team Ever fancied being part of the scariest and funniest journey through York's most perilous past as one of our many infamous characters? You could find yourself tackling the role of The Torturer, a Saxon slave from Viking Age York, The Lord Chief Justice, Dick Turpin, or even our resident witch Isabella Billington, amongst others. There's a variety of characters to sink your teeth into. Each character delivers a short, scripted show, which is crafted to be interactive, so improvisation will also form a key part to your performance. As well as maintaining strong characterisation throughout each show, you'll also be operating and controlling special effects during your performance, to enhance the whole experience. At peak times, you'll be performing shows every 8 to 10 minutes and as this is a dungeon after all, you'll be working in dark, somewhat confined spaces. You will be joining an award-winning team; the York Dungeon's recent awards include the Yorkshire Tourism Outstanding Customer Service Award 2023, and the Visit York Large Visitor Attraction of the Year 2024. These roles are fixed term until the 9th of November with a minimum guaranteed hours of 5 per week. What you'll bring to the team Ever fancied being part of the scariest and funniest journey through York's most perilous past as one of our many infamous characters? You could find yourself tackling the role of The Torturer, a Saxon slave from Viking Age York, The Lord Chief Justice, Dick Turpin, or even our resident witch Isabella Billington, amongst others. There's a variety of characters to sink your teeth into. Each character delivers a short, scripted show, which is crafted to be interactive, so improvisation will also form a key part to your performance. As well as maintaining strong characterisation throughout each show, you'll also be operating and controlling special effects during your performance, to enhance the whole experience. At peak times, you'll be performing shows every 8 to 10 minutes and as this is a dungeon after all, you'll be working in dark, somewhat confined spaces. You will be joining an award-winning team; the York Dungeon's recent awards include the Yorkshire Tourism Outstanding Customer Service Award 2023, and the Visit York Large Visitor Attraction of the Year 2024. These roles are fixed term until the 9th of November with a minimum guaranteed hours of 5 per week. You'll need to be flexible with working hours and days, which will include weekdays, weekends and public holidays as the need arises. Working hours could also include some evenings, for special events such as our 'Dungeon Lates' experience.
