Biffa is seeking an Environmental & Gas Operative to monitor environmental conditions across Midlands landfill sites and balance gas field operations. The role includes data interpretation, reporting, and ensuring compliance with site permits. You will manage gas compounds, maximise power generation, and work closely with operational colleagues. The role involves on-call duties and potential overtime, with home-working flexibility and a company 4x4 benefit.

To undertake environmental monitoring of various landfill sites, data interpretation and reporting in accordance with the site permit as well as gas field balancing, maintenance and gas compound management. Monday to Friday working pattern, with on call rota of 1 day in 10 £30 on call allowance, plus time and a half overtime if called out Covering the Midlands region 42 hours per week as standard, with regular overtime available Autonomy to manage your own diary and workload with home working Company 4x4 pick up provided, with personal use available Your core responsibilities. Undertake environmental monitoring, data interpretation and reporting in accordance with the site permit and Biffa instructions Undertake gas field monitoring, balancing and maintenance Manage the landfill gas compound to ensure that power generation is maximised Undertake all duties in accordance with Health and Safety policies, guidance notes and training Work closely with and collaborate with landfill operational colleagues Supervise and manage contractors that work on specific areas relating to this role Collect, understand, collate and prepare data (for generator and environmental performance) as required to monitor the overall business performance, identify areas for improvement and implement these in collaboration with Management. Out of hours emergency assistance for gas generation issues Carry out such reasonable tasks as might be required by the Company from time to time. Our essential requirements. Basic computer literacy. Able to travel, may be asked to stay away from home on rare occasions. Driving licence - Driving is a large part of the role, you will sometimes be required to drive to more than one site in a day.
