Projects differing in size and value, with a range of circa £100k to £125m, to include the management of staff, finance, safety, commercial and technical issues associated with Major Connections infrastructure projects. The schemes will likely cover all three UKPN Networks. Typical clients include National Grid, National Highways, Network Rail, HS2 among others. The projects will include diversions across all voltage levels together with the provision of new supplies for construction works and provide long-term power for the clients following completion and would consist of programmes of work to meet customer timescales. Principal Accountabilities: Line reporting responsibilities of a team of Commercial Project Managers. To lead and motivate a team dealing with both commercial and technical issues associated with infrastructure projects. To manage a team programme and plan technical activities required to undertake the project to a specified client requirement. This includes the preparation of design documentation, method statements and risk assessments, and other safety related paperwork. Manage the end-to-end delivery of Major Connections infrastructure projects from producing the estimate/offer through to the commercial management of the project delivery with the Capital Programme delivery team. Liaison with Asset Management regarding diversions and to obtain point of connection information, and develop strategies for delivering customer requirements. Produce quotations following: Our Licence conditions ensuring regulatory compliance of all projects (LC12, LC15, LC15a), Connection Charging Methodology, New Road and Street Works Act, where applicable. The design process requires network analysis and the production of detailed drawings (via Netmap). Manage the delivery of diversions and new connections major projects, when required to do so. Manage the financial control of projects, ensuring the delivery of planned Gross Margins. Produce reports and communicate the progress of projects with regard to time, cost and quality to the highest level both within UK Power Networks and client organisations. Ensure all legal and statutory requirements associated with operational works are met. In particular, actions necessary to meet the requirements of the New Road and Streetworks Act, Electricity at Work Act and Distribution Safety Rules. Take an active and responsible role in the 'on the job' coaching of staff to ensure developmental needs of both the team members and business are met. Management of project accounts with regard to the financial status of the projects ensuring, (via the commercial team), and that all commercial activities are undertaken, and variations to original specifications are correctly claimed. Ensure utmost attention to Health and Safety requirements to ensure accidents are avoided and hazards are highlighted, to reduce unnecessary injury related incidents. This includes providing warning of potential problems. To adopt the responsibilities and duties of Client under CDM regulations, when required. Have a full understanding of the project's contractual obligations, to ensure full compliance with the client's requirements. Manage all documentation, providing clarity on the progress of projects at any given time. Manage the high-level issues with regard to the Supply Chain, ensuring the efficient management of suppliers and sub-contractors, to ensure project targets are achieved. Ensure compliance with the UK Power Networks Project Governance model for delivery of major projects and ensure gate deadlines are met and information supplied. To deputise for the Senior Manager in their absence. Be a point of reference within the team to provide guidance and assistance to Project Managers on enquiries, project delivery and technical matter in these areas. Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience: A Degree, HNC or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering and recent relevant project management experience within the electrical industry and distribution networks (design or construction). LV/HV/EHV network design experience, significantly 132/33/11kV/LV networks Experience with the current CDM regulations Experience of the Project Governance and Control process, a commercial awareness and experience working with Engineering and Construction Contracts would be advantageous People management and communication skills, to motivate and mentor team members, together with interaction with stakeholders at the highest level Demonstrate excellent understanding and management of safety critical issues, with an essential part of the role is the management of direct staff and contractors in work where safety is paramount Manage departments budgets including budget preparation, monthly forecasting, exception management and live reporting High level of proficiency in IT package Nature and Scope: Working with the team manager, you will likely to be an experienced engineer and leader with an understanding of the business from an operational and planning perspective. The Cloud Solution Architect position will report to the Architecture Manager and will work within the IS directorate based in any of the following office locations - London, Crawley or Ipswich. JOB PURPOSE: UK Power Networks Hybrid Cloud strategy is evolving, and Microsoft Azure is key to our Technology Strategy. Working within the team is an excellent opportunity to help shape this and to lead on the delivery of key capabilities whilst gaining experience of implementing cloud solutions at scale in a regulated environment. As a Cloud Solution Architect, you'll be defining and communicating the current and target state architectures across the enterprise and wider architecture teams. You'll ensure that the solutions link to, and are informed by, our overall strategy and architecture, and support the business goals. You will be enabling application modernisation/rationalisation projects to deliver at pace where you will be expected to provide subject matter expertise or lead on delivering the Cloud Architecture; leveraging existing and forming new patterns as required. You will help drive the adoption of an Enterprise Architecture Repository and support the updates to Architecture templates & policies. DIMENSIONS: Direct reports: none Budget: none directly, influencing £10m PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: Leading on definition of Cloud and Infrastructure architectures and roadmaps for transitioning from legacy technologies to Azure and M365. Translating roadmaps into packages of work that allow frequent incremental delivery of value to be included in change programmes. Perform architecture assessments of existing infrastructure to identify any gaps that may exist and provide recommendations on remediation. Ensure solutions compliant with the Architecture Roadmap are delivered across Microsoft Azure and other SaaS Cloud offerings. Working closely with business stakeholders, programme and projects managers as well as product owners to define technical solutions designs. Track, analyse and monitor technology performance metrics of managed products. Leading complex and technically challenging architectural transformations, coordinating technical SMEs across multiple vendors. Seeking out and utilising continuous feedback, fostering adaptive design and engineering practices to drive the collaboration of programmes and teams around a common technical vision. Supporting Architecture review governance and Enterprise Architecture Repository management. Ensuring Architecture principles & standards are kept up to date with best practice and technology changes. NATURE AND SCOPE: For someone with a passion for the Cloud Solution Architecture and defining roadmaps for complex enterprises, you'll be defining adoption paths for Cloud and own the solution design authority to ensure it best supports the enterprise and UKPN's long-term strategy. With valuable exposure, you'll be building and leveraging relationships with colleagues across the UK Power Networks and suppliers to ensure commercially focused decisions that create long term value. SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: To succeed in this role, you'll need: A broad knowledge of the Microsoft Azure and Data Centre infrastructures. You will translate complex technical concepts to colleagues, up to senior leadership level. An understanding of Agile methodologies with experience working in an Agile team. Excellent collaboration and partner management skills. Experience of developing, updating and communicating architectures, designs and proposals for action. Experience working with business solution vendors, technology vendors and products within the market. An understanding of industry architecture frameworks, such as TOGAF, BPMN or ArchiMate. Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience, in a STEM field. Experience as a Solution Architect or similar role in a large IT environment. You will be the UK Power Networks Services technical lead with the responsibility for delivering engineering on both projects and bids, of a multi-discipline design team. You will ensure that UK Power Networks Services produce high quality engineered solutions and services that comply with relevant legislation, client and UK Power Networks Services standards. You will lead a team of engineers to produce a high level quality of design, systems integration, testing and commissioning to budget and on time in several energy sectors, rail, airports and emerging technologies. You will provide technical liaison with suppliers, and clients to create new business and to deliver projects. You will work and act with autonomy, being self-supervising, and report to Senior Management. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: Manage the development, implementation and oversee the delivery of designs across the UK Power Networks Services business that deliver Good Industry Practice. Provide technical and commercial input to the team and into UK Power Networks Services bids. Ensure that designs from multiple disciplines are interfaced and robust to enable accurate tender submissions to be developed. Manage design budgets and programmes and provide accurate reporting to internal and external clients. Manage engineering change control, supporting the commercial and project management teams working with the client. Manage interfaces to ensure internal and external stakeholder engagement and client satisfaction. Provide technical leadership in developing business opportunities with relevant material and preparing proposals. Assess cost/benefit trade-off of technical solutions and support the technical decision-making processes. Identify areas for technological advancement whilst maintaining excellent engineering standards. Identify and deploy the technical skills, resource levels and systems to complete projects, including the engagement of external resources. Qualifications: Degree level or equivalent in engineering or science. Extensive experience as a senior engineer. Experience in an engineering management role on large infrastructure project(s). Safety management qualification such as NEBOSH certificate or equivalent. Membership of a professional body such as the IET. Chartered Engineer or working towards achieving Chartership. Knowledge of Power distribution, Electrification, SCADA, and Communication systems. Basic knowledge of project management.
