The Role The Assistant Accountant is a key role in supporting the wider Finance Team, covering a variety of accounting and administrative duties in a timely and effective manner. This role supports all Group companies and is an important link with internal and external stakeholders. Responsibilities Import sales information into the finance system in a timely and accurate manner Process cashbook transactions, ensuring all entries are recorded correctly Post bank statements and complete regular bank reconciliations Allocate incoming cash within the sales ledger, resolving any discrepancies where required Assist with the processing of subcontractor payment packs, including reconciling requested payments, checking compliance with CIS and VAT, and preparing remittance advice for authorisation Maintain digital records to support intercompany and third party recharges Prepare and maintain debtor reports and support credit control activities as required Produce monthly spend reports Review and analyse credit card spend and employee expenses Assist with the preparation of statutory returns Support the production of monthly management accounts, including balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis Maintain accurate digital records and ensure documentation is up to date Carry out nominal account reconciliations, investigating and resolving any variances Raise sales invoices and issue customer statements in line with company procedures Provide support with purchase ledger processing as required Personal Qualities An interest in developing a career within finance Strong attention to detail Good organisational skills A methodical and structured approach to work Basic problem solving skills Good communication skills Proactive and reliable Positive and flexible approach to work Technical Skills & Experience Previous experience in a similar finance or accounts role (desirable but not essential) Strong IT skills including a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel Qualifications & Training GCSEs Grade 4 9 or equivalent in Maths and English Additional Information Doocey Group value a diverse workforce and welcome applications form all sections of the community, regardless of any protected characteristics. This role would suit someone who has progressed from a hands on site based plant role into a coordination or planning position.
