Mechanical Chargehand Location: Birmingham Salary: 55,000 Holiday: 25 Days Annual Leave Benefits: Bonus, and Overtime About the Role: An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Chargehand professional to step into a busy production facility manufacturing building materials. This role will see you leading a team of engineers on shift, ensuring the smooth operation, maintenance and reliability of heavy plant and production machinery. You will play a key part in minimising downtime, driving safety standards and supporting continuous improvement across site. Key Responsibilities: Supervising and coordinating day-to-day mechanical maintenance activities within a production environment Leading and supporting a team of engineers and contractors on shift Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive breakdown repairs Fault finding on production machinery, conveyors, motors, gearboxes, pumps and hydraulic systems Ensuring minimal disruption to production through efficient response to breakdowns Maintaining high health & safety standards and ensuring team compliance Supporting maintenance planning and scheduling Assisting with plant upgrades, installations and continuous improvement projects Completing maintenance documentation and reporting to management What We're Looking For: Proven experience in a mechanical maintenance role within a production or manufacturing facility Strong mechanical bias with experience working on heavy plant or automated production equipment Previous supervisory or team leader experience Strong fault-finding and problem-solving capability Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings and rotating equipment Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings Good understanding of health & safety regulations Time-served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering Proactive, hands-on approach with strong communication and leadership skills If you are an experienced Mechanical Chargehand with supervisory experience looking to progress within a stable and established production environment, we would like to hear from you.
