Are you a Financial Controller looking for a business that is already in great shape - and wants you to make it even better? This is not a turnaround. There is no crisis to fix, no chaos to manage, and no fire to put out. This is a privately owned, £30 million turnover e-commerce business that has been growing steadily for years - and is now bringing in an experienced Financial Controller to help take things to the next level. The business is well-run, well-established, and financially healthy. What it is ready for now is sharper financial leadership. Better processes. Greater efficiency. And a qualified accountant who can sit alongside the CEO and help shape the direction of the business, not just report on it. Here is what makes this role genuinely interesting. The CEO is the former Financial Controller. They understand exactly what good finance looks like, they value the function, and they want a true right-hand person - not someone to hand reports to and wave off. You will have direct access, genuine influence, and a leadership team that speaks your language. You will inherit a small, solid finance team and have the scope to develop them. You will find plenty of opportunity to improve processes and drive efficiencies - not because things are broken, but because a growing business always has room to sharpen. And you will own the full financial operation: reporting, compliance, cash management, forecasting, budgeting, and the commercial insight that sits behind every significant decision. What is on offer: £70,000 to £80,000 starting salary + Benefits 33 days holiday including bank holidays4 days on site, 1 day WFH Clear progression opportunities - candidates are expected to grow with the business. Contributions are valued - no bureaucracy, quick and agile environment. You will be a qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, or ACA) with a background in an SME or commercial environment and the confidence to take full ownership of a finance function. Most tax roles are built around compliance. This one isn't.I'm working with a firm that has one of the largest charity teams in the UK, supporting a broad range of clients across different sectors. The work is varied, but more importantly, the role is set up to be advisory led rather than purely compliance driven. You'll take ownership of a portfolio of clients, overseeing compliance and making sure everything is technically sound, but that's the baseline expectation. The real focus is on advisory and supporting clients with structuring, transactions, property matters, fundraising, and employment tax, and being the person they come to when they need clear, practical guidance. You'll work closely with Partners and other teams across the firm, helping to deliver joined up advice and spotting opportunities where you can add further value. There's also an internal element to the role, reviewing work and supporting junior team members, helping to maintain standards without it becoming a purely people management position. The team itself is in a strong place, but there's still an opportunity to contribute to its growth, whether that's through developing client relationships, supporting business development, or getting involved in training and sector insights. The firm strikes a good balance. It's large enough to offer interesting work and proper technical depth, but small enough that collaboration is genuine and people are given the space to build their own client relationships and develop their careers. This would suit someone who is already managing a portfolio and is comfortable on the compliance side, but is looking for a role where advisory becomes a bigger part of what they do, and where they can have a broader impact. If that sounds like the kind of move you're considering, it's worth a conversation. Commercial Finance Director £125k-£140k + bonus Nottingham Hybrid (2 days in office) This is a Commercial Finance Director role with real strategic influence, sitting at the heart of a highly successful services business You'll own the P&L in full. Shape pricing strategy across the business. Be a trusted advisor to the executive team and board. The kind of role where your financial thinking actually drives decisions. You'll take responsibility for all revenue, costs, margins and profitability. Lead the budgeting and forecasting cycles, identify the financial drivers that matter, and make sure the business has transparent, accessible reporting it can actually use. You'll own pricing strategy - all of it. Policy, tender pricing, alternative pricing models, control of value leakage. Drive margin improvement and embed a real culture of commercial accountability across the teams. You'll manage a team of around ten across FP&A and business partnering, working on a genuinely exciting agenda - a big shift in how the business approaches pricing, real growth plans both organically and through M&A, and plenty to get stuck into. This is a highly successful, financially stable business. Cash generative, with a strong track record and a clear, ambitious plan for what comes next. The kind of platform that gives a Commercial Finance Director real room to make an impact. And the culture? This is a place people actually stay. Genuinely low attrition, real tenure, and a culture that backs it up. Down to earth, collaborative, and the kind of environment where people are set up to succeed. No ivory towers - you'll need to be as comfortable in the detail as you are in the boardroom. In the words of someone already in the business: "The best work-life balance I've ever experienced." What we're looking for: A qualified accountant - ACA, ACCA or CIMA - with significant post-qualification experience leading a sizeable commercial finance function. You'll have owned a P&L, led FP&A and business partnering teams, and know how to make complex financial information land with non-finance audiences up to board level. Equally comfortable in the detail and in the room where the big decisions get made. Someone who challenges the business, not just reports on it. You'll also bring real pricing experience - whether that's owning or shaping pricing strategy, working on tender or contract pricing, or driving margin improvement through pricing discipline. This is central to the role, so comfort with pricing models, value leakage and commercial accountability matters. If you've been involved in M&A activity - whether that's financial due diligence, integration work, or modelling acquisitions - that's a real bonus here given the growth agenda ahead. Experience from a services, technology, professional services or financial services background. The package: £125k-£140k base, achievable bonus, 43 days holiday, 35-hour week, private medical and more. Based in Nottingham, hybrid. Interested? Drop me a message. Finance Manager Financial Accounting & Controls Location: Nottingham (hybrid, office first with flexibility) The package: £55,000 to £62,000 basic 10% bonus 25 days holiday with option to buy more, increasing with service 6% matched pension Plus a strong wider benefits package If you're a qualified accountant who enjoys the technical side of finance but doesn't want to lose the commercial edge, this one is worth a look. This is a Finance Manager role sitting within a large, complex UK group, focused on financial accounting, controls and technical guidance across multiple entities. Why this role stands out: Progression that actually happens There's a clear pathway into senior roles. People move on internally here, not sideways endlessly. Breadth and exposure You'll be working across a wide group structure with multiple entities, giving you proper exposure to group reporting, statutory accounts and controls. Variety beyond reporting This isn't just a reporting role. You'll get involved in projects, change activity and business facing work alongside the core technical accounting. Stable but evolving environment Established business, but with ongoing transformation and investment, so there's still plenty to improve and shape. The role: Reporting into the Head of Technical Accounting, you'll sit within a developing controllership function that's currently being reshaped. It's a good time to join if you want to influence how things are done rather than inherit something fully set. The role is technically strong. You'll be working across IFRS and UK GAAP, with some exposure to US GAAP during an ongoing transition. Core areas include: • Statutory accounts across multiple entities • Group reporting and month end oversight • Review and control of journals and reporting outputs • Strengthening financial controls and governance • Supporting audit and compliance activity Alongside this, you'll get involved in project work, including acquisitions and wider finance transformation. A key part of the role is looking at new products and services and making sure the accounting treatment is right from the outset. There's regular interaction with senior stakeholders, including exposure at senior leadership level, so you need to be comfortable stepping out of the detail and explaining the "why". Who this suits: You'll likely be ACA or ACCA qualified with a strong grounding in technical accounting. This could be a first move from practice if you're technically strong and want a broader role, or a second move if you're looking for more ownership, visibility and impact. If you want a role where you can properly use your technical skillset but still stay close to the business, this is a good balance. Apply now with your up to date CV. Most product roles talk about ownership. This one expects it. I'm working with a UK based tax technology business building a product in a space where there's zero tolerance for error. Their platform applies complex UK tax legislation at scale, helping accounting firms identify risks, spot opportunities, and deliver better outcomes for their clients. It's not a concept. It's live, it's being used, and now it needs focus. They're hiring a Chief Product Officer to take full ownership of product as a commercial function. That means being accountable for what gets built, why it matters, whether customers will pay for it, and whether it scales. Not managing a roadmap. Not coordinating stakeholders. Owning outcomes. You'll be expected to bring clarity where there isn't any today. To make decisions quickly, often with incomplete information, and to stay focused on what actually drives revenue and product-market fit. This is a product that needs to be right. Not mostly right. Right. It's built around deterministic logic, where correctness, repeatability and auditability matter. There's no hiding behind experimentation or ambiguity in the core product. You'll work closely with engineering, but without blurring responsibilities. Product direction, prioritisation and commercial outcomes sit with you. Engineering execution sits with the CTO. It's a clean split, and it needs to stay that way. The reality is you'll inherit imperfect products and competing priorities. You'll need to decide what not to do just as much as what to do, and you'll be expected to challenge when things aren't working. They're looking for someone who has scaled B2B software and taken real ownership of commercial outcomes. Someone who can make decisions without relying on process as a safety net, and who understands the difference between what's valuable and what's just noise. If you've worked in tax, finance or infrastructure software, that helps. If you understand how to build products that are correct, repeatable and trusted, even better. This won't suit everyone. It's not a research-led product role, and it's not about building features for the sake of it. But if you're motivated by owning outcomes and building something that genuinely works in a high-stakes environment, it's worth a conversation. Distinct Recruitment Privacy Policy
