Team Manager - Substation Electrical Design As part of the growing Engineering Team at my clients they are currently recruiting for a Team Manager (Electrical Design - Substations) to join the team. The successful candidate will be based in the Dublin office (with flexibility to work from one of the other office locations). Travel to and from site may occasionally be required, but this will be predominantly an office-based position. As Team Manager, the successful candidate will be taking on an engineering management role on major Power, Renewable & Substation projects. You will be responsible for identifying, managing, and coordinating all electrical design requirements and deliverables on substation projects. You will be involved in technical and strategic decision making. You will be a team leader, and provide mentoring, support and technical development to team members. You will ensure that all design outputs meet the required technical, quality and safety standards. My client is a premier utility contractor, specialising in the maintenance and construction of Electrical and Telecommunications infrastructure. Main Responsibilities: Act as a Team Manager and Substation Technical Expert within Groups Engineering Team Ownership of all elements of electrical substation design including primary design, secondary design, design calculations, procurement specifications, etc. Allocate tasks to team members, monitor progress vs costs & programme Review & approve team submissions in advance of issue, identifying value engineering opportunities where possible Support team members in all projects as assigned throughout the lifetime of each contract Take ownership & actively manage substation design projects when required Promote a safety culture and safe working environment Identify design risks and propose mitigation techniques Qualifications and experience: Honours Degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering 8+ years industry experience Knowledge: Proficient use and knowledge of software such as AutoCAD, ePlan, MS Office, (experience with design studies and cable design software would be an advantage) Strong knowledge of the substation, utilities and renewables sector Familiarity with current ESB/Eirgrid specifications & design requirements would be an advantage Skills: Appreciation of the design / construction interfacing requirements Well-developed client facing skills with a client orientated approach Commercial awareness Ability to work independently & ability to manage a team Excellent Communication, Interpersonal, Organisational & Planning Skills Ability to balance competing priorities and meet personal targets while dealing with a dynamic workload Attitudes:

The role involves working closely with the Bid, Commercial, and Engineering teams to ensure all tenders and proposals are technically compliant, commercially competitive, and aligned with company objectives. Main Responsibilities: Lead the preparation and coordination of electrical estimates for a wide range of projects including transmission, distribution, renewable energy, and industrial electrical works. Review and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and tender documentation to prepare detailed cost breakdowns. Develop comprehensive material, equipment, and labour take-offs in accordance with project requirements. Engage with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations and verify technical compliance. Compile and maintain a database of historical costs, unit rates, and supplier information to support ongoing estimating activities. Collaborate with the Bid Manager to develop pricing strategies, risk assessments, and tender clarifications. Ensure that all estimating activities comply with Group's HSQE, commercial, and ethical standards. Participate in bid reviews, value engineering exercises, and post-tender negotiations with clients. Assist with project handovers to operations, ensuring a smooth transition of information and cost data. Qualifications and experience: Degree or Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Building Services, or related field. Minimum 5 years' experience in electrical estimating within the power, utilities, or construction industry. Demonstrable experience in preparing and managing estimates for electrical infrastructure projects (transmission, distribution, renewables, or industrial). Experience working with major clients such as ESB Networks, EirGrid, or similar utilities is advantageous. Knowledge of current industry standards, codes of practice, and health & safety regulations. Skills & Knowledge: Strong technical understanding of electrical systems including LV, MV, and HV networks. Excellent analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in MS Excel and estimating software (e.g. Candy, ConQuest, CCS, or similar). Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and tender documents.
