Westlakes Recruit are currently recruiting for EC&I Design Engineer. This is a Hybrid role and offices are based in Westlakes and will be engaged on a contract basis. Job Description An opportunity has arisen for an experienced EC&I Design Engineer with site experience supporting mechanical handling operations, upgrading existing electrical power systems, and delivering control, electrical, and instrumentation (CE&I) security-related improvements to join a major project design team. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of an established team working on a high-profile infrastructure project within a highly regulated sector. The role offers the chance to work in a dynamic and forward-thinking environment delivering a project of national importance. The successful candidate will work closely with the Project Engineering Manager, multidisciplinary project teams, and the client on a fast-paced project. Key Responsibilities Ensure all plans, drawings, and CE&I deliverables are produced accurately and in line with project requirements. Manage and maintain design documentation, including drawings and technical specifications. Control and coordinate configuration management of engineering deliverables and associated site works. Liaise with designers and stakeholders to ensure compliance with applicable design and construction regulations. Provide regular progress reports and technical updates to the CE&I Responsible Engineer (RE). Plan and prioritise work effectively, adapting to setbacks and resolving technical challenges as they arise. Use industry-standard CAD, coordination, and 3D scanning software to transfer accurate site data to the design team. Contribute practical site knowledge and technical input to Design and Constructability Reviews. Required Experience & Skills HNC/HND in Engineering (or equivalent qualification). Strong operational plant knowledge and experience working within a live operational environment. Experience using engineering document management and configuration control systems. Positive, proactive attitude with excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across diverse project teams. Ability to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance for work within a regulated industry environment. Working Arrangements Full-time position - 40 hours per week (Monday-Friday). Job Description We are seeking an experienced and technical Temporary Works Designer to join our Construction engineering team. You will be responsible for providing safe, innovative, and cost-effective temporary structures that enable the successful delivery of complex construction and infrastructure projects. This role bridges the gap between design theory and practical site application, requiring close collaboration with site-based teams and permanent works designers. Key Responsibilities Design & Calculation: Develop detailed designs and structural calculations for temporary works, including formwork, falsework, scaffolding, propping, and excavation support. Compliance: Ensure all designs strictly adhere to BS 5975:2019,2024 and CDM Regulations 2015. Safety & Risk: Conduct thorough Design Risk Assessments (DRA) to identify and mitigate residual risks during construction, use, and dismantling. Stakeholder Liaison: Work closely with the Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) to interpret design briefs and communicate critical design intent to site teams. Verification: Perform independent design checks (Cat 1, 2, or 3) on both internal and subcontractor-provided designs. Site Support: Undertake site visits to assess specific ground conditions or reactive situations that require rapid engineering solutions. Qualifications & Experience Education: Bachelor's degree in civil or Structural Engineering. Professional Status: Preferably a Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) with the ICE or IStructE. Technical Skills: Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Tekla, or structural analysis tools like STAAD.Pro. Industry Knowledge: Proven experience in temporary works design within the UK construction sector. Safety Training: Possession of a valid CSCS card; completion of a CITB Temporary Works Designer/Coordinator course is highly desirable. Role Overview To work as part of a CE&I design team supporting a major infrastructure programme, providing site-based front-line design support to commissioning teams and delivering detailed design modifications to meet functional and business requirements. This role focuses on producing, supporting, and checking detailed design changes. Implementation, testing, and commissioning activities are carried out by separate site-based teams and are outside the scope of this position.
