Fortress Recruit is now looking for a talented Systems Engineer to join a leading defence organisation as part of their growing engineering team, responsible for delivering advanced systems used across global naval and defence programmes. You'll work on a mixture of defence programmes and customer projects, taking ownership of complete system designs from requirements through to customer delivery. The business is investing heavily in new product development and redesign programmes making this an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges whilst influencing future product development. Key responsibilities will include: Leading the technical delivery of customer projects across the full systems engineering lifecycle Acting as the technical authority for system designs, supporting multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout delivery Developing, reviewing and maintaining system requirements, technical documentation and engineering baselines Supporting system architecture, integration, verification and customer acceptance activities Leading technical and design reviews whilst working closely with customers throughout project delivery Supporting product redesign activities, system architecture development and future technology roadmaps Working closely with software, electronics, mechanical and production engineers to deliver robust, manufacturable solutions Managing engineering change, configuration control and technical documentation Supporting continuous improvement, product development and engineering best practice Maintaining engineering documentation including cable drawings and system documentation Supporting international engineering teams as the business continues to expand To be considered for this role, you'll have: A Degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience Previous experience working within full lifecycle Systems Engineering Experience working across the full engineering lifecycle from requirements through to delivery The ability to produce and review high quality technical documentation A logical approach to systems thinking and problem solving Experience working with engineering configuration control and change management Knowledge of electrical system design and engineering documentation Experience using SolidWorks Electrical, DraftSight or similar electrical CAD software would be highly advantageous An interest in future technologies, product development and continuous improvement Eligibility to successfully obtain SC (5 years' UK residency without visa or sponsorship requirement) This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative engineering organisation where you'll have genuine technical ownership, exposure to international programmes, opportunities to travel and the chance to influence the future direction of established defence products. Fortress Recruit is supporting a leading Defence Manufacturer in their search for an experienced Principal Systems Engineer (Electrical) to join their growing specialist team based in Poole. This is a senior position combining hands on technical engineering with project leadership, for new and existing full life cycle projects. Some projects will require you to be more involved technically, while others will require greater project leadership, so the ability to move comfortably between the two is essential. Key responsibilities will include: Acting as the Technical Authority for allocated projects, reviewing and signing off electrical designs and engineering outputs Providing senior technical leadership across projects from requirements and concept through to verification, qualification and manufacture Remaining hands on technically, supporting engineers and resolving complex electrical engineering challenges Coordinating multidisciplinary engineering resource across electrical, electronics, mechanical, software and systems teams Leading technical reviews, managing technical risk and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and requirements Maintaining high standards of engineering documentation, technical governance and design assurance Working to APQP quality processes and collaborating with customers and internal stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery To be successful in this role, you will have: A Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering or a related discipline Significant senior level experience in electrical engineering and design Proven experience reviewing, approving and signing off electrical designs Strong knowledge of engineering standards and their application to complex designs Experience operating as a Technical Authority, Design Authority or equivalent senior technical position Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering projects within defence, naval, maritime, aerospace or other highly regulated environments Strong technical documentation, engineering governance and stakeholder management skills Experience with Zuken E3, EPLAN or equivalent electrical CAD package Knowledge of APQP, DEF STAN, MIL-STD, EMC or environmental qualification would be advantageous Eligibility for SC clearance (5 years UK residency with no visa or sponsorship requirement) This is a predominantly site-based role in Poole, reflecting the collaborative nature of the position and the requirement to work closely with project teams and wider engineering disciplines. Some flexibility to work from home may be possible, typically 1-2 days per week where project requirements allow.
