Ideal Candidate Profile We're seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to support the operation and maintenance of critical cooling and water systems within a mission-critical environment. Key Requirements: Mechanical maintenance experience within Data Centres, Banking, Manufacturing, Industrial, Critical Facilities or Large Commercial environments. Strong knowledge of: Chillers Cooling Towers AHUs / FCUs Pumps & Motors Pressurisation Units Plate Heat Exchangers Domestic & LTHW/CHW Systems Plant Rooms Experience carrying out PPM and reactive maintenance. Water Treatment and Water Hygiene experience. Legionella / ACOP L8 knowledge highly desirable. Experience using BMS systems for monitoring and fault investigation. Fault-finding capability across mechanical building services infrastructure. Experience working within permit-to-work and safety-critical environments. Desirable: Data Centre experience. Critical environment experience. Cooling tower testing and water treatment programmes. F-Gas qualification. Mechanical apprenticeship, NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent qualification

Overview We are seeking a highly capable Chief Engineer to provide technical leadership for a mission-critical data centre environment. The successful candidate will act as the senior technical authority for the site, ensuring the safe operation, maintenance and resilience of critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure. This role is ideal for an experienced Critical Facilities Engineer, Shift Leader, HVAP or Chief Engineer with a strong electrical bias and a solid understanding of cooling infrastructure within a Tier III or Tier IV environment. Key Responsibilities Provide technical leadership across all critical electrical and mechanical systems. Ensure maximum uptime and operational resilience of the facility. Lead incident response, troubleshooting and root cause analysis activities. Review and approve SOPs, MOPs, EOPs and switching schedules. Manage critical maintenance activities and shutdowns. Oversee specialist contractors and service providers. Support compliance, auditing and reporting requirements. Ensure all work is carried out safely in line with site procedures and industry standards. Mentor and develop engineering teams. Role Overview This role supports a UK Public Sector business by delivering personnel security and managing the daily administrative duties of a secure facility. This position offers an opportunity for a proactive individual to develop new skills within an established team. The role is based full-time in Reading, with the possibility of occasional travel to a London office. Key Responsibilities Process BPSS and SC vetting applications and support general vetting administration. Deliver a range of security-related administrative activities. Act as the primary security point of contact for facility users and visitors. Manage and action items from group mailboxes for vetting and secure facility support. Verify the legitimate and compliant use of the facility. Escort contractors during maintenance and related activities. Provide office cover for the security team as needed. Assist with security audits, inspections, and reviews. Required Qualifications Must have lived in the UK for the last 5 years and be able to hold a minimum of SC security clearance. Experience in a business administration environment. Proactive mindset with the ability to identify opportunities to support colleagues. Professional communication skills, with the confidence to engage effectively at all levels. Ability to work independently, manage ambiguity, and prioritize tasks. Collaborative team player with effective relationship-building skills. Trusted to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion. Proficiency in Microsoft 365 tools, including Outlook, Word, Teams, SharePoint, and Excel. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of the Defence Sector, Central and Local Government. Knowledge of the UK National Vetting System. Experience with CRM systems or general office duties.
