PE Global is recruiting a Senior Design Engineer for our client based in Peterborough. The role is a 24-month contract and the rate is £38.58 PAYE or £52.36 Umbrella p/h. Responsibilities: Lead the design and development of major engine castings, specifically Cylinder Heads and Cylinder Blocks, for diesel and alternative fuel applications-from initial architecture through fully detailed, production-ready designs. Develop integrated design solutions that consider interacting systems such as rotating assemblies, valvetrain, lubrication, breather, cooling systems, bolted joints, and sealing. Collaborate within a global, multi-disciplinary team to ensure designs meet customer requirements, durability targets, functional performance, and manufacturing constraints. Plan, manage, and deliver project and sub-project activities, providing technical leadership and accountability for assigned workstreams. Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, working closely with external partners to develop and mature robust design solutions. Conduct structured risk assessments, including the creation and execution of FMEA, to identify design risks and define validation requirements. Prepare and lead formal design reviews, clearly communicating design intent, risks, and trade-offs to gain cross-functional approval. Maintain regular communication with peers, team leaders, and stakeholders, providing clear updates on progress against plans, milestones, and deliverables. Produce and release engineering drawings and technical data to standard to support prototype builds and volume production. Support supplier development using APQP tools and methodology, ensuring quality, cost, and delivery targets are met throughout the product lifecycle. Requirements: Casting and machining processes knowledge Understanding of requirements of systems components such as Rotating Systems, Valvetrain, Lubrication, Breather and Cooling systems, Bolted joint and sealing experience. Strong understanding of casting and machining processes related to casting of complex cast iron components Minimum of 4-6 years design experience in CAD Expert level in complex CAD geometry including surface modelling related to major castings, cylinder heads and blocks using CREO10 Microsoft Office 365 packages, intermediate level of excel, pivot tables, v look ups etc. Please note PE Global cannot assist with visa sponsorship, candidates will need the full right to live and work within the UK for the full contract duration.
