Additionally, in regard to the project execution phases they will: a) Dispatch phase: Verify hazardous substances/chemicals are stored in appropriate locations and that chemical assessments are held at the point of storage. b) Construction/installation Commissioning phases: Site Inspection - support site management by ensuring all required notices are prominently posted. Initiate fire risk assessment of site premises and ensure outstanding or ad-hoc EHS equipment identified as not present is obtained Site Mobilisation - ensure Construction Phase EHS Plan and RAMS are available at site locations and that EHS project folders and files are set up for use during project. Establish project EHS Safety Representatives and ensure minutes are published on notice boards and uploaded to project files. Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) - support site management to ensure all project resources have read and signed to verify their understanding of project documentation for SSoW. Identify non-routine tasks not covered by generic documentation and provide technical EHS comments to task-based risk assessments and method statements provided by contractors and sub-contractors. EHS Site Registrations - ensure correct process is followed for handling of visitors to the project, as well as any client requirements. Control, issue and track visitor/spare loaned PPE on site and maintain EHS folders on project files. Competencies - Ensure all persons arriving at site have valid certification, deliver the site induction to new persons on the project and record inductions in the project files. Deliver project specific EHS training/toolbox talks in terms of local legislative requirements and mitigation of significant risks. Site Rules - set-up and operate project initiatives and programs as per the Construction Phase EHS Plan. Monitor compliance to site rules, escalate to site management where non-conformance is identified and report into RIVO. Communications - implement safety communications to all applicable personnel on site, organise monthly Safety Representative forums and rollout general Safety Campaigns. EHS Management of Subcontractors - monitor and assess the subcontractor work against accepted RAMS, and report non-compliance to the EHS Head / EHSMiP Monitoring and Assessment - undertake routine and non-routine competency checks and inspections to monitor the work operations from EHS perspective during the site mobilisation, construction, installation and commissioning aspects of the project. Ensure outputs from inspections are recorded in the project files. Report any identified unsafe acts or conditions to the site management team and log in RIVO. Safety Observations and Incident Management - receive and review Safety Observation, verbal observations and other events. Enter safety observations and actions taken into RIVO. Investigations - gather information for accidents, complete initial incident risk assessment within RIVO system and escalate significant incidents to the PM, EHS Head / EHSMiP and site management team. Undertake root cause investigations where required. Complete various workflows in RIVO to the required timescales. Feedback to workforce the outcomes of remedial protective and preventative actions taken. Emergency Response Arrangements - display emergency response plan details in site offices & welfare facilities, and ensure relevant contacts are communicated during the induction. Estates Business Project Manager Overall Purpose: The Project Manager takes responsibility for delivery of wide ranging projects within the Estates department, ensuring appropriate governance and assurance are implemented to achieve delivery to time, cost and quality constraints. Health Physics Technician Envisaged Hours: 37.5 hrs per week, 07:45 - 16:00 (part time hours available) Job Description: The Health Physics Group at UKAEA Culham provides routine advisory and monitoring services to site projects to assist in compliance with Health and Safety laws. Health Physics Technicians are required to maintain and reliably deliver a routine radiological protection and occupational hygiene service and to provide specialised monitoring support for a wide range of radiological and workplace hazards. Health Physics Technicians are required to provide operational Health Physics advice as requested to engineers and plant technicians for radiological and beryllium related tasks at Culham (JET/MRF/MDF & MAST-U projects). The post holder will need to be designated as radiation monitored worker under the IRR17 and under site procedures will be a registered beryllium worker for which a medical examination is required. They will also need to be medically fit to wear pressurised suits and other respiratory protective equipment. Responsibilities and duties: May be required to undertake the following duties: Perform routine surface and airborne contamination monitoring for the control of radiological and beryllium hazards for assessment of site working procedures; Respond to urgent requests for Health Physics cover for radiological protection and/or occupational hygiene advice and provide advice and monitoring in response to incidents, including spills, leaks, releases of radioactivity, chemical release or for site emergency conditions; Set up work areas with the appropriate designation for radiological/beryllium and ensure control measures are correctly applied and written procedures followed as per work permits and authorisations. Provide advice and assistance to RO's relating to the setting up of radiological and beryllium controlled areas specific to the work involved; Change and count stack discharge samples for alpha/beta/gamma/tritium and beryllium contamination; Audit of NDT radiography operations to ensure compliance with the regulations; Prepare samples for counting, use of liquid scintillation counters and assist in the laboratory when required; Complete documents and record forms for transfers of materials from radiological and beryllium areas. Produce clear chronological reports on the results of contamination monitoring. Performing confined space atmospheric checks and other occupational hygiene measurements for hazardous chemicals as required for work control; Responsible for advice and control of radioactive and beryllium waste disposal where required; Assist with the training of new team members. Other Health Physics related functions as determined by operational priority. The role requires responding to incident situations at Culham site, and acting as a nominated deputy for the HPS. The role holder will be expected to be part of the emergency on-call team for on-site incidents and for off-site RADSAFE response. The role requires flexibility and to take hands-on approach with the routine services of the Health Physics Technicians. Outreach and Communications Officer Overall Purpose: The Fusion Technology (FT) Division utilises expertise to draw together a qualified suite of all the technologies needed to realise deployable commercial fusion power plants. Thus, enabling the development of fusion relevant technologies, from concept to demonstration in relevant environments, in the context of the whole powerplant design and delivery community. Across the Culham and South Yorkshire sites, we combine a suite of unique testing facilities and capabilities for advanced engineering and world-leading research for international and UK fusion programmes. The role of the Outreach and Communications Officer is to support the delivery of outreach programmes and activities surrounding the Fusion Technology Facility (FTF) in Yorkshire, as well as supporting the delivery of communications to the staff at FTF and arranging staff activities. This role will support UKAEA's Communications department, which is part of UKAEA's Communications, Business Development, and Innovation Division. Accountabilities: Support the delivery of the UKAEA Outreach strategy for areas around the Fusion Technology Facility, Yorkshire. Work with the Yorkshire Outreach Manager and wider UKAEA Outreach team to develop and deliver school-based activities such as workshops, for Key Stages 1 - 3. Contribute towards the UKAEA Outreach Network, building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders such as but not limited to, Fusion Centre for Doctoral Training, local schools, colleges, universities, and local council groups.
