About the role We're looking for a People Business Partner to join our team in the UK and partner with leaders across Europe, APAC and the US. In this role, you'll be a trusted advisor to managers and leaders, helping them build strong, high-performing teams, supporting growth and development, and ensuring a consistent, high-quality employee experience across multiple regions. This is a strategic, hands-on, and highly collaborative role - perfect for someone who thrives on shaping the future of work in diverse geographies and cultures. What you'll do Enabling Our People: Partner with team managers to provide tools, resources, and guidance that help them lead confidently and effectively. Support leaders and teams through performance conversations, career growth discussions, and sensitive situations, always with empathy and fairness. Translate global career development and performance frameworks into local context and ensure they are actively adopted. Leading Mobility and Cross-Team Movement: Ensure employees have seamless experiences when relocating, going on secondments, or moving between teams and countries. Act as the go-to facilitator for mobility questions and cross-border coordination across Europe, and the US. Driving People Strategy: Collaborate with global PeopleOps and regional leaders to prioritise and implement key initiatives. Use data, insights, and employee feedback to inform decisions around performance, engagement, and team development. Coaching and Organisational Design: Coach leaders through team changes, organisational planning, and leadership challenges. Support mediation and conflict resolution, helping to build stronger, healthier teams. Partner with L&D to identify learning opportunities based on trends observed in the field. Championing Culture & Wellbeing: Monitor wellbeing, engagement, and team health across regions, taking action through managers and leaders where needed. Promote inclusive, people-first practices that reflect local and global cultures and values. Lead initiatives that foster belonging and bring our culture to life across remote and hybrid teams. This includes server-side, client-side and mobile engineers working closely with UX experts, copywriters and designers. Some of our coding conventions are open-source. Our technology On the server-side, we mainly use Python. Most of our websites are powered by Django, Django-REST-framework and GraphQL (Graphene). We use AWS heavily, employing most of the Hashistack (eg Packer, Consul, Terraform) as part of a continuous deployment pipeline. See, for example, Django, ELB health checks and continuous delivery. What you'll do Develop an innovative and highly technical product, central to Kraken's billing system used by a multitude of countries, markets, and clients. Abstract specific problems into generic building blocks that clients can use to build and modify their systems. You will be working in a multi-disciplinary software engineering team; solving design challenges; domain modeling; solving technical problems; engineering solutions for smart meters; writing robust fault-tolerant software primarily in Python, Celery, and async processing. We have lots of difficult design challenges to solve. The energy market is complicated, outdated, and process-heavy - there's an awful lot of domain modeling that we need to get right. Strong attention to detail is essential. We have difficult technical problems to solve. With the advent of smart meters, we'll soon be processing millions of meter readings a day. There's a great opportunity for disruption in the energy market. The big suppliers still dominate but are not exactly popular. The energy landscape is changing as we move to more disaggregated forms of generation, with less predictability, more dynamism, and smarter technology. Octopus Energy was the first UK supplier to introduce a "tracker" tariff whose prices track the daily wholesale prices: You'll be working for a company that's fighting climate change. Our parent company is the largest investor in solar generation in the UK and is funding wind and anaerobic digestion. As a supplier, we're helping people to use greener technology and renewable energy, all helping move the world towards a lower carbon future. What you'll have Ability to think abstractly to solve general problems, not directly tied with an immediate user need. Skills in identifying performance bottlenecks and optimising code.
