We are pleased to present a rarely advertised opportunity to join Dyer and Butler (part of MGroup Services) in a critical role to further our aviation success. The Operations Director - Aviation will lead a project and maintenance portfolio with responsibility for projects being delivered to time, quality and budget situated across Heathrow and Gatwick airports. Our airport capability is extensive including planned & reactive maintenance, groundworks, runway resurfacing, asset renewals (such as tunnel and taxi-way upgrades) and further design & build civils projects. We have a long-standing, collaborative relationship with both airports, with integrated project teams and depots situated at Heathrow and Gatwick. Reporting into the Managing Director, the Operations Director - Aviation will have responsibility for all operations at both airports and will have 5 direct reports. Responsibilities Ensure projects and contracts are adequately resourced and are successfully delivered to scope, target cost and quality. Provide direction, motivation and leadership to both internal staff and external sub-contractors engaged in providing support activities to the project. Be accountable for, and deliver, high levels of performance in key areas of health and safety, environment, sustainability and quality and champion continuous improvement and best value. Create and implement strategy to increase aviation's capability to successfully take on larger civil engineering projects. Advise the Aviation Director on key project activities and initiatives within the business and present action plans and project delivery status updates to key customers and stakeholders. Commercial performance - summarise information and communicate performance to internal stakeholders. Lead, review and challenge project budgets and forecast to ensure a consistent, challenging but deliverable approach is adopted. Oversee delivery of projects and contracts demonstrating a thorough understanding of associated processes. Implement appropriate monitoring and control mechanisms, policies and procedures to ensure compliance and adherence to statutory requirements, managing the projects risks and opportunities in line with company procedures. Actively seek out, drive and promote service excellence, best practice and continuous improvement initiatives. Manage project and contract costs ensuring maximum utilisation of resources. Coach and motivate the project teams; lead by example. Develop collaborative relationships with the supply chain. Implement the business plan, managing and reviewing performance of contracts against financial and operational targets. Support work winning activity as required including bid strategy, resourcing, overseeing solution development and planning and negotiations. The Person Degree in Civil Engineering, Operations Management, or related field. A background in operations management, with established senior leadership experience. Experience of leading a portfolio of civil engineering projects in the infrastructure sector. Understanding of self-delivery and sub-contractor delivery. Strong strategic planning and organizational skills. Excellent leadership and team management abilities. Proven capability of running projects and frameworks to time and cost.
