Purpose of Role/Job Overview: • Underwrite and price UK risks in line with underwriting guidelines, appetite, and delegated authority. • Drive profitable growth through accurate underwriting of new business, renewals, and mid-term adjustments. • Respond to broker enquiries received direct or via online quote platforms, email, and direct submissions. • Build and maintain strong broker relationships across UK markets, with existing broker contacts considered highly advantageous. • Ensure underwriting decisions are technically sound, compliant with FCA regulations, and meet service level expectations. • Contribute to product development and refinement based on broker feedback, market trends, and risk appetite. • Collaborate with internal teams including operations, compliance, and sales to ensure smooth policy lifecycle management. • Use data and reporting tools to monitor performance, identify trends, and support continuous improvement. • Represent our clients brand positively through professional communication and a strong service. Key Accountabilities: • Meeting and where possible, exceeding brokers service levels and expectations. • Identifies cover and hazards that will impact on the acceptance, pricing, or terms applicable to a risk. • Understands the impact of claims and risk management on the performance of a case and demonstrates an ability to review taking these factors into account. • Build and maintain strong relationships with key trading partners to maximize influence. • Support the development and operation of sales campaigns to drive the acquisition of profitable business. The brand sits across several apps: call tracking, AI call intelligence, an AI voice agent, talking forms, SMS, and an internal control centre. Portal is the gateway clients log into to access whichever apps they have. The use AI coding tools as the centre of how they build software so you will need to be confident using them already. AI Product Developer - Key duties You will be the developer for Portal, and own the build. Working closely with the Managing Director, you will talk through what needs building and build it using their AI development pipeline. The role is mid-level. As Portal expands and we build a team around it, the path to lead is real if you earn it. They have built an AI-leveraged development pipeline; In practice that means: Claude Code as the primary coding environment, and a set of AI agents that handle architecture, code review, security review, code quality, QA, and documentation. They define what needs building, the pipeline does a lot of the typing, and the developer directs it, reviews the output, and ships. Your value is in defining the work clearly, directing the pipeline, catching what the AI gets wrong, and making good calls. Not in how fast you can type. What you'll work with: Beyond Portal itself, the wider stack includes large language models, speech recognition, AI voice agents that hold real conversations on the phone, and proprietary telecoms infrastructure. The role involves managing a varied and technically challenging defendant caseload. This is an excellent opportunity for a solicitor who wants to play a meaningful role in a growing and ambitious firm. Key Responsibilities: Managing a full caseload of defendant EL/PL personal injury claims, including litigated matters Advising insurers and insured clients on liability, quantum, and coverage issues Drafting pleadings, witness statements, and schedules; managing disclosure and expert evidence Conducting negotiations and settlement discussions, including Part 36 offers and mediations Instructing and liaising with counsel and experts where appropriate Providing clear, commercial, and pragmatic advice to insurer and corporate clients Ensuring compliance with CPR, pre-action protocols, and client service level agreements (SLAs) Supporting junior team members where required and contributing to team development Building and maintaining strong client relationships Candidate Requirements Essential Qualified solicitor in England & Wales Strong experience in EL/PL casualty claims, (preferably gained within a defendant insurance environment) Confident managing litigated matters with supervision Sound understanding of liability, quantum, and procedural issues Strong written and verbal communication skills Commercial and pragmatic approach Desirable Experience advising on coverage issues alongside liability disputes Experience acting for insurers, TPAs, or large corporate insureds
