R&D Engineer - NFC - RFID - RF - Smartcard Location: Full-time onsite (limited WFH due to the nature of the role) Travel: Occasional travel as required Overview We are seeking an R&D Engineer to join a highly innovative team focused on the design and development of RFID-enabled smartcard and proximity-based systems. This is a hands-on, research-driven role working on products interoperable with payment terminals and aligned with evolving contactless payment technologies. Reporting to the Director of Research & Development, you will play a key role in ensuring product designs are delivered on time and to the highest standards, meeting both internal and customer expectations. Key Responsibilities Design and develop RFID-based smartcard systems (13.56 MHz, proximity-coupled devices) Develop circuit designs, prototypes, and iterate based on testing and performance data Conduct performance benchmarking and validation of designs Carry out RF and physical product testing to support development cycles Gain and apply in-depth knowledge of relevant standards and payment scheme test requirements Analyse and understand the operation of contactless-enabled payment cards Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support product development and delivery Requirements Essential: Degree in Electronics, Physics, or a related discipline (Masters or higher considered) Strong understanding of core electronic principles Experience working with RFID systems and applications Hands-on experience with RF test equipment (e.g. Vector Network Analysers) Proficiency in AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail Strong working knowledge of standard office software Desirable: Experience with 13.56 MHz smartcard antenna design Previous experience in HF RFID antenna design Academic understanding of laser technology Practical experience operating lasers Profile The ideal candidate will be adaptable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a hands-on R&D environment.
