As a Battery Development Technician, based in either Oxford or Sheffield, you will be responsible for assisting the science and engineering teams, within a laboratory-based environment for pilot scale battery development. You will be involved in conducting and supporting scientific investigations and experiments and provide technical support to enable the laboratory to function effectively. The Role Getting involved with the production of battery cells from start to finish, producing coatings, electrode preparation, conductivity analysis, electrode stacking, cell packaging, electrolyte filling, cell formation and testing Reporting critical process feedback, to assist with the optimisation of the synthesis and cell construction processes Regular maintenance of laboratory equipment, to ensure machinery functions correctly Maintaining stock levels of consumables Using advanced characterisation and battery testing equipment to determine key physical and chemical properties Examining and evaluating battery electrochemical cycling test data, as well as ex-situ diagnostic studies Supporting the engineering team as required. Maintain records on work performed including data entry and collection and analysis. Conducting battery cycling trials. Materials synthesis and characterisation. investigate systems faults, report, record and rectify as required. Presenting results to senior staff Maintaining, calibrating, cleaning and testing of equipment Conducting and supporting investigations and experiments The Person Experience of a laboratory materials-based environment. Understanding working practises of working with hazardous materials. Experience in data processing and data communication. Experience of working in a safety conscious environment and have a strong understanding of what PPE is required to work in this environment and when to use it. Understanding of laboratory safety and practical material handling experience. Experience within a laboratory-based environment conducting trials, build events or prototyping. Experienced with the assembly of complex electro/mechanical components and systems Able to set up and operate basic test equipment to perform diagnostic tests Previous exposure to battery materials, characterisation, pouch cell assembly/testing and solid-state synthesis are desirable.
