Digital Site Reliability Engineer From £ 550 - £ 700 p/d - inside IR35 Hybrid Multiple Northern Locations 6-month contract We are seeking a Digital Site Reliability Engineer for our government client. The role location is hybrid, based on working 2 days per week on-site and the remainder of the week working remotely. Office locations include Blackpool, Newcastle, Manchester, Sheffield or Leeds, as preferred. Description: Job Profile: Practice Lead - Site Reliability Engineering The high profile Investment Bank client has established an Engineering Practice Family with the mission to develop engineering capabilities across all teams/pod within a specific business area of the bank. At the heart of this mission are three engineering Practices: Infrastructure Software Engineering, Testing, and Site Reliability Engineering. Each practice will develop the "crafts" required by all practitioners by: • Establishing, maintain, updating and sharing best practices • Developing customized learning paths and training content to drive individual development. The practice will also foster collaboration between teams to ensure the practices are embedded across the organization, and to drive the continual development and refinement of the practices. We are looking for an experienced developer/engineer - with a passion for collaboration and for learning - to join our growing team, with a responsibility for establishing the Site Reliability Engineering practice. We expect you to: • Be a people person, with a passion for sharing and learning. • Have demonstrated experience developing infrastructure software and expertise in many of the foundational development tools in use at the bank (Git/Github, Jenkins, Mulesoft (though this will shortly be replaced by Kong), Ansible, Puppet, PowerShell, Python, additional: Postman, Nexus, Litmus, Cherkmarx, Sonatype). • Have a strong background in IT Infrastructure operations and recovery • Demonstrated expertise in applying end to end monitoring with a number of different tools. The client's emerging standard tool is AppDynamics but we operate many others today. • Demonstrated expertise in Log Aggregation and Analytics using Splunk. Knowledge of tools such as ELK preferred but not essential. • Have working knowledge of a much broader set of infrastructure technology and be able to advise on appropriate use cases for the technology. • Understand why the wide scale adoption of automation and APIs will increase the agility of application development teams, and be able to share this vision in a simple and accessible way. • Be well versed in agile methods • Have practiced team development and have the ability to develop a coaching plan for a team • Be comfortable teaching hands-on engineering skills to people with varying technical backgrounds. • Work with globally distributed teams. This role will carry out some or all of the following activities: • Establish communication channels to engage with subject matter experts across the bank • Run the SRE Forum & Community of Interest. • Establish/harvest a base set of standards and best practices from existing teams within a specific business area of the bank. • Document and share best practices. • Work with engineering leads from all areas/platforms within the bank to further develop the standards/best practices. • Lead the exploration of new tools and techniques. • Develop learning paths to ensure that practitioners have a defined route to improve their skills. • Identify appropriate industry based training opportunities via the client's existing training resources (which include resources such as Coursera, LinkedIn Learning). • Where necessary, work with internal training teams to develops customized training courses - tailored to the client's specific requirements and standards. • Work with Product Owner and Practice leads to identify the technology skills required for successful operation of the pod. • Provide team based, or 1-1 technical consultation to the relevant engineering teams within that business area of the bank. • Assist with technology onboarding (how-to's) as participants adopt new tools for the first time. • Give steering and guidance to a network of training leads/coaches to ensure consistency of vision and delivery.
