Are you looking for a rewarding role where you can immediately support students at university with their mental health? Do you want to use your counselling qualifications to work with students and help them achieve their university goals? Randstad Student Support is recruiting for a Counsellor to work with students at Universities in Newcastle. The role is part-time and flexible so it can fit around your other work or home commitments. The role will be remote so you won't have any travel costs. The role will begin at the end of January 2021. You will work on a temporary basis to offer brief, and generally time-limited, counselling to students experiencing mental health and emotional issues. You will also be required to contribute to other areas of work within the team, including following the team's crisis and risk assessment protocols, helping to develop and deliver psycho-educational and therapeutic groups, and making case referrals, as required. You will work as part of the multi-disciplinary Counselling & Mental Health Support Team and contribute to the positive impact that this team has on student retention and the student experience. Benefits: 28 days holiday pay pro rata - perfect for the summer holidays and Christmas breaks £22.00 Per Hour Counselling sessions expected to be 3 days per week, with 5 one hour sessions per day You work on the days and times you are free The counselling support is currently all remote Responsibilities: Providing the role of a Counsellor your responsibilities will include: Provide therapeutic counselling support (brief and time-limited support) to students experiencing emotional and mental health issues, on an individual appointment basis - such as transition, anxiety, self-esteem, self-harm, eating distress, procrastination and exam panic Work with individual students to guide a process of self-help. Outside of student appointments, deliver effective follow-up work (for example, proactive case management, liaison with GP services, referrals to other teams within the University or to external organisations, etc., as required). Work as an effective member of a multi-disciplinary team, consulting and liaising with other practitioners within the team, in order to provide joined-up and coherent support. Maintain therapeutic boundaries and take proper account of the need for confidentiality at all times when working with students and when discussing cases with staff. Establish and facilitate psycho-educational and therapeutic groups for students. Where students have a mental health condition which is likely to be covered by the Equality Act definition of 'disability', signpost the student to relevant members of the multi-disciplinary team so that they can assist students in applying for appropriate support, such as Disabled Students' Allowances (DSA) funding. Respond to enquiries from academic and support staff within the University, providing appropriate information and support in order to aid effective referrals and support student retention, academic performance and student satisfaction. Maintain accurate records in line with current legal and other University-level and departmental data requirements. Undertake regular individual clinical supervision, in addition to participating in monthly line-management meetings. Contribute to the development of a collaborative, collegiate and inclusive culture, by sharing information and good practice with others. Requirements: Educated to postgraduate Diploma or Masters Level in counselling, psychotherapy or counselling psychology and hold an accredited professional body membership Accredited Membership of the BACP or UKCP - or actively working towards such accreditation. A DBS to cover vulnerable adults A thorough knowledge of clinical counselling models and interventions - in particular, brief focused approaches Knowledge of how to make a sound clinical assessment of each client, and tailor and deliver therapeutic interventions in response Working knowledge of the terminology and structures associated with universities and higher education Excellent therapeutic skills on a one-to-one basis, and also in a group setting Ability to maintain clear therapeutic boundaries and manage safeguarding and confidentiality issues Strong inter-personal skills Sound appreciation of the ways in which counselling and mental health support services underpin the student experience Ability to work under pressure, including seeing up to 5 clients per day and tolerating high levels of client distress A commitment to following professional and ethical principles and guidelines A commitment to the principles of equality and inclusion Sound IT skills, including word-processing, email, online research and data processingIf you feel this is an opportunity for you and have the desire to make a real difference, then apply online today Please note that if successful, you will be asked to attend a remote interview.
