About Us Diamond Light Source is the UK's national synchrotron science facility. By accelerating electrons to near light-speed, Diamond generates brilliant beams of light from infra-red to X-rays which are used for academic and industry research and development across a range of scientific disciplines including structural biology, physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, earth and environmental sciences. About the Role We now have an opportunity for a Beamline Scientist to collaborate with the B24 Principal Beamline Scientist to support the continued development, operation and scientific programme of the beamline. B24 is a soft X-ray tomography correlative cryo-microscopy beamline operating at Diamond Light Source. The beamline provides the capability to carry out 3D imaging of whole cells up to a resolution of 25 nm using full field cryo X-ray tomography. The X-ray microscope is complemented by super resolution microscopy for which a bespoke structured illumination microscope has been developed for use at cryo temperatures. This enables B24 to provide a unique correlative cryo-imaging workflow for users of the beamline. B24 is part of the Biological CryoImaging science group at Diamond that also includes eBIC the UK's national cryo-electron microscopy centre. Thus, together with the capabilities of the other, primarily X-ray based, imaging instruments at Diamond the group provides a platform for using electrons, X-rays and visible light to image biological samples from proteins to whole cells and tissues across a diverse range of length and time scales. Responsibilities include: Provide operational support for the beamline, including responsibility for the day-to-day safe operation of the beamline, interact closely with the users of the facility. Develop an internationally competitive research programme that exploits the bioimaging capabilities at the beamline and Diamond more broadly, and disseminate the results. Act as a single point of contact (Local Contact) for a proportion of user experiments providing specialist technical/scientific advice and collaborative support and input where appropriate. About you We are seeking an enthusiastic scientist with a strong background in microscopy and imaging of biological samples. Experience with X-ray imaging and preparation of samples for imaging at cryotemperatures is desirable but not essential as training will be provided as required. The role has a strong research component and as part of your responsibilities you will develop an internationally competitive research programme which exploits the capabilities of B24 and bioimaging at Diamond in general. You will have access to state-of-the-art laboratories for structural and cellular biology embedded at the beamline and within the Research Complex at Harwell to pursue your research. Diamond provides support for external grant funding through national and international funding agencies and is also partnered with Doctoral training programmes funded by UKRI and Wellcome to facilitate this. You will hold an appropriate PhD degree or equivalent qualification or proven relevant experience. Benefits Diamond offers an exceptional benefits package to support staff in achieving a positive work/life balance. This includes 26 days annual leave plus Christmas closure, public holidays, 2 annual volunteering days and flexible working hours. We also offer an excellent defined benefit pension scheme. Staff also have access to a range of amenities on site including a nursery, cafes, a restaurant and sports and leisure facilities. A relocation allowance may also be available where applicable. To Apply Please use the online application process to apply and tell us why you believe you are suitable for this role. The closing date for applications is 2nd February 2025.

We are living through a time where what we do right now in the fight against climate change will impact generations to come long into the future. And what happens in local government will be critical to the success of winning this fight. Will you choose to be someone that can make a real difference? Tower Hamlets has declared a climate emergency and has set an ambitious target to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2045. In addition, the borough will see itself grow by 50,000 new homes over the next 15 years therefore the challenge to decarbonise our borough, enable a green transition and provide the energy infrastructure to support this growth will be immense! The brand-new Future Energy and Water Systems Team is stepping up to this incredible challenge and is determined to play a role in bringing people together on a pathway to achieving net-zero whilst delivering secure, reliable and affordable energy to our residents. Adopting a 'whole energy systems' approach will be key to delivering the innovative solutions the borough needs, and we want you to join us on our exciting journey to deliver them. You will be employed at a principal officer level who can confidently advocate for the council's energy interests as we transition to a low carbon economy. Some experience in energy security, electricity supply and heat networking at either strategy, development or delivery stage, will be helpful. That said, we're also keen to hear from people at a range of stages in their career and with transferable skills in related infrastructure and/or engineering fields. The Role There is much we are already doing as a council, but we must go much further including building on the work we have already done on our Local Area Energy Plan. This means decarbonising our own assets wherever we can; further developing robust and effective strategies and either implementing the council's own schemes or facilitating the delivery of other schemes outside the council. To do this we will need to work closely with utility providers, developers, government, regulators and our local communities to deliver a modern fit-for-the-future energy system. Supported by the team, you will take a leading, facilitating and supporting role in ensuring the best outcomes for our residents. In response to the challenge above, the council has recognised we need to develop our in-house expertise and resources. Together we will work with you to build your skills and expertise as we travel on this journey. Bolstering the Council's expertise in strategic energy planning and implementation, you will play a key role in delivering our ambitions. You will need to have some technical understanding along with the ability to bring people together to tackle our shared challenges. About you To fulfil this role effectively, you will need to demonstrate: That you hold a degree (undergraduate or post-graduate) and professional qualification in engineering or other related discipline and relevant experience. A detailed understanding of energy planning and delivery in a political, urban environment including such issues as development economics, engineering, planning, inward investment and place-making. Experience of maximising net zero, multi benefit utilities opportunities and benefits for local people within a heat network zone is particularly welcomed. An ability to bring people together and achieve consensus to deliver high quality outcomes in a planning, development and engineering field. Experience of public consultation, funding applications, business casing and project procurement are welcomed. A strong desire to deliver a modern, resilient and effective energy system that benefits the people of Tower Hamlets. Closing date: 2nd February 2025 To apply, please click "Apply Now".

Sainsbury's product teams work across Argos, the UK's 3rd largest general merchandise retailer, Sainsbury's, the UK's 2nd largest grocery retailer, Nectar, the largest loyalty programme in the UK as well as Tu clothing, Sainsbury's Bank and Argos Financial services. We're big and that's really exciting when you consider the volume of customers that see your work, but you'll also ship lots of value to customers, and you'll be able to learn and iterate quickly to get the best customer experience. What we're looking for: You nail day-to-day product processes (agile ceremonies, user stories, prioritisation) and are as comfortable in the detail as with the bigger picture. Success is about balancing the customer, the tech and the commercials. We need someone who can juggle the lot, articulate a compelling vision and unite a cross-functional agile team. You're courageous and can fly the flag of agile delivery methodologies, coach the team and stakeholders to test and learn, fail fast and deliver outcomes iteratively. You're technically curious, having worked directly with engineers, architects, and third parties, building real software. A successful influencer, flexing your style to drive our strategy forward while always remaining true to you. If you have experience of AdTech then that's the icing on the cake. We'd love to hear from you. In return you'll get: Colleague discount across the multi-brands - Sainsbury's, Argos and Habitat Pension plan Special offers on gym memberships, restaurants, holidays, retail vouchers and more Last couple of bits We've adopted a hybrid model, coming together for collaboration and to get to know each other better. We're working flexibly - have a chat with us about what you need. If you've read this far, but are not 100% sure you're there with your experience, still get in touch. The skills you do have are often more transferrable than you think. Equally with such a large and growing tech team, it might be there's something else that could suit you better. If you'd like to find out more head to Sainsbury's DTD. We are committed to being a truly inclusive retailer, so you'll be welcomed whoever you are and wherever you work. Around here, there's always the chance to try something new - whether that's as part of an evolving team or somewhere else across the business - and we take development seriously and promise to support you. We also recognise and celebrate colleagues when they go the extra mile and, where possible, offer flexible working. When you join our team, we'll also offer you an amazing range of benefits. Here are some of them: Starting off with colleague discount, you'll be able to get 10% off at Sainsbury's, Argos, TU and Habitat after 4 weeks.
